Tom,
Here is the latest log file.
Thanks Louis, that log is looking much, much better. Only one error to go now!
You probably know the procedure off by heard by now, judging by the number of times we've had to do it, but could you download this file and extract the contents to your Desktop please:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/16537616/lo...NENTS%20v2.zip
Then rename this file:
C:\Windows\system32\config\COMPONENTS
To
C:\Windows\system32\config\COMPONENTS.old
Then copy and paste the COMPONENTS file from your Desktop into this location.
After you have done this, reboot, run the SURT and upload the log please:
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log
Tom
Tom,
I have to break away for a bit. If is your bed time, we can continue tomorrow. I am really impressed with your knowledge. Thanks again.
Louis
Hi Louis,
Thanks for the kind words, but they couldn't have come at a more inappropriate time! I just turned one error into three again, by uploading the wrong file for you - sorry. Either way, the fix didn't work for that one error we originally had so I'm going to have to do some research and get back to you tomorrow.
Tom
Tom,
I may be away for a while tomorrow. I will check when I return.
Thanks again. I certainly had no clue as to what to do when you picked up my problems. Seems to me that the registry is much, much improved and that is directly related to your expertise.
Tomorrow.
Louis
Hi Louis,
Well I've hit a bit of a problem, let me explain a little. The COMPONENTS hive is linked together much like a chain, where you can take one part of information, then scan for it in another area and find the next clue, then repeat until you have an answer, but the problem here is that one of the links right in the middle of the chain is broken, so I can't trace it either way. I've compared the structure of your registry to that of many other users here and that didn't help either, so we're really going to have to investigate further with this one. I will ask a friend for advice on this, but he is very busy with exams at the moment and I don't know how long it will take before he has the time to review this for me. In the mean time, if you are willing, then I would like to investigate further on your system to collect as much information as possible in the hope that I can make a link elsewhere. As soon as I have the end point of the chain, this will be finished.
I don't know how long this would take, or if it would work, so I wanted to hear your thoughts on this before I use up any of your precious time.
If you are willing, please copy this folder to your Desktop:
C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_wstorvsc.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.17514_none_856fd1bf7e8bad73
Then zip it up.
I would also like you to repeat this for this file:
C:\Windows\winsxs\Manifests\amd64_wstorvsc.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.17514_none_856fd1bf7e8bad73 .manifest
Then upload them both to your Dropbox public folder and send me the links please.
Please don't let me pressure you into doing this, it has to be your choice and I really don't mind either way.
Tom
Tom,
This should be the files you requested. Sorry this is taking so many twists and turns.

Louis
Tom,
I am old retired guy and have time and patience. Seems to me that you are the one, considering that you are going to school, with limited time to devote to this. I am learning as well, so again, thanks for your help.
Louis
Thanks so much for the file Louis! I will review them all now, in the hope that I can make a link somewhere between them and registry.
You're most welcome for the help - you have been a pleasure to work with, not only are you very appreciative but your patience is incomparable. My exams are over and I have a week off from University at the moment, so I have plenty of time to do this.
I'm glad you are learning, please feel free to ask if there's anything you want to know and I'll do my best to answer, and if I can't then I'll find someone who will be able to.
Thanks again for the files.
Tom
