OK, went to the link and downloaded the file and opened it, this opened up the Windows Stand Alone Installer. It ran thru the install process but gave me the popup "The following files did not insall..." and listed the one I downloaded in the box.

Please check the Windows Update History - what is the error code for that (failed)install? right-click on the entry In the list and select Details)

    Here are the details:

    Installation date: ‎1/‎8/‎2013 5:18 AM
    Installation status: Failed
    Error details: Code 80070490

I get the same code for KB2761226. Other 'optional' updates found recently installed fine.

Please go to You receive a "0x80070490" error code when you use Windows Update or Microsoft Update Web sites to install updates and run the Fixit it offers - see if it helps (I doubt it, but miracles happen!)

Noel...no miracle this time. I have tried that 'fix it' early on when I experienced this issue and it always states its correcting Windows Update components and after running the problem is listed as 'fixed'. The same thing this time. After running the 'fix it', I checked again for updates and found 14 (a bunch were just released today). Thirteen installed w/o a problem. The fourteenth - KB2779030, failed.

That in itself is an improvement - and probably means that one will itself install now.
Please do another manual check for updates, and install whatever gets found.

Nah...same issue. Still get a failure when installing the remaining 'important' update....lol. Good news though, I am now the proud oiwner of Bing Desktop....no issues installing that bad boy. I think Steve Jobs may have been right all along....

Personally, I'd uninstall that, and hide the update :)
Please reboot, then run another SFC /SCANNOW and post the CBS.log file - it should be a bit simpler for me to read now (if I'm lucky!)

OK, Bing uninstalled. Odd thing - after the last round of updates...I lost the personal Windows desktop background photo that the person had set and entire layout/feel of Windows looks different to me. I am not a Win 7 user so can't pinpoint exactly what, but the look is not what I've been used to seeing. I also lost the internet homepage setting. Anyway, ran Scannnow, no error msgs. Log is attached.

Please open an elevated command prompt window, and run the following commands

    Code:

    MD %userprofile%\desktop\noel
    copy C:\Windows\servicing\Packages\Package_for_KB2757638~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.2.cat %userprofile%\desktop\noel
    copy C:\Windows\servicing\Packages\Package_for_KB2757638~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.2.mum %userprofile%\desktop\noel
    DIR C:\Windows\servicing\Packages\*KB2757638*.* >%userprofile%\desktop\noel\KB2757638.log
    copy C:\Windows\servicing\Packages\Package_2_for_KB2731847~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.2.0.cat %userprofile%\desktop\noel
    copy C:\Windows\servicing\Packages\Package_2_for_KB2731847~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.2.0.mum %userprofile%\desktop\noel
    DIR C:\Windows\servicing\Packages\*KB2731847*.* >%userprofile%\desktop\noel\KB2731847.log
    DIR C:\Windows\System32\catroot\*KB2731847*.* >>%userprofile%\desktop\noel\KB2731847.log

You should now find a new folder on the desktop - 'noel' - please compress that folder, and attach it
(this related to the a couple of error messages in your latest CBS.log, I think! - and it may give me some pointers as to what may be a root cause.)
