It should be less than 5% normally - see what process is using most of that 18%
Well that is strange. Since posting, I went downstairs and let it run, just came back up, and installation is complete. Going to run the regular windows updates now.
This?

That's the same one I posted earlier - check the timestamp..
There's something strange here.
Please boot to a clean boot and try running the tool again....
How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
Did the clean boot, ran it again.
The CheckSUR log:
That has to be good right?Code:================================= Checking System Update Readiness. Binary Version 6.1.7601.21645 Package Version 17.0 2013-01-28 00:07 Checking Windows Servicing Packages Checking Package Manifests and Catalogs Checking Package Watchlist Checking Component Watchlist Checking Packages Checking Component Store Summary: Seconds executed: 872 No errors detected
That's better :)
What Anti-virus are you using? - it may ne that blocking proper operation of the tool.
Are Windows Updates working now?
I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials. It's never stopped updates before, so I don't know why it would now.
There was one update that needed doing last night - I think it was the service pack, but it got to about 66% and kept failing. I'll give it another go now.
Tried the update - wasn't getting past 0%. Should I run the SURT again?
EDIT: Ran the SURT, and for a while it said 'Preparing the installation' without getting any further. Then I got a notification that new updates were ready to be installed, so I tried running the update again, and closed the SURT, and again, it got to 66% and failed.
