It could not find DIR C:\Windows\crlab /S in the other directories. I'm not sure what I am doing wrong. Shall I try to download the 'crlab.zip' once again, and follow your instructions to see if I did something wrong?

It looks as if the files are in the right place to be copied, so it may be the copy command that went wrong, so please try it again - make notes of everything that appears on screen (or take a pic and attach it)
I'm reluctant to post another fix until we get this one right, as it may indicate a potential virus threat or damaged hard drive.

    Noel,

This is what I get now...
Did you want me to go from the 'crlab.zip' directions? (below is from the 'xcopy' commands)

    Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]

    C:\Windows\system32>XCOPY c:\crlab c:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h

You need to run that command from Repair Environment boot - it won't work in normal Windows.
reboot to the Repair Environment - as soon as the machine restarts, starttapping F8 - this should bring up the Advanced Boot Menu, at the top of whichshould be the option 'Repair my Computer'
    Pick that
You'll have to log in with your username and password.

Pick the option to use a Command Prompt
    At the prompt type
    DIR C:\crlab
hit the enter key - if you get a 'NotFound' error try
    DIR D:\crlab
    or
    DIR E:\crlab

The drive letter in use when you find the folder willneed to be substituted (for<drive>) into the followingcommand...

    XCOPY <drive>:\crlab<drive>:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h

then exit, and try another SFC scan.

...second thoughts - it's found yet more errors, which is very worrying, as this usually signifies either hard drive problems, or malware.

What Anti-Virus are you using? Is it up to date?

Please download and install Malwarebytes Anti-malware (free version) from http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ - UNtick 'Enable free trial of MBAM PRO' at the end of the installation - and update it, then run a full scan in your main account, and Quick scans in any other user accounts.

    Delete everything it finds

    Post back with your results.

    Hi Noel,

It took forever, but, there was no malware/viruses detected. I downloaded Malwarebytes, and ran that on C drive and E drive. (C drive took about 5 tries to get through, but, it finally went completely through, and it is clean). I use Microsoft Security Essentials as my Anti Virus.(virus def version 1.143.2540.0 and spyware def version 1.143.2540.0) It is up to date (as of this post). I ran that also; it took about 4 hours to get through, and it showed everything was clean. (Microsoft Security Essentials kept closing along with my update issues at the beginning of all my original windows update problem, although it does not seem to do that as much now). Sorry to take so long to get back to you.
I should point out that the system is under a year old;( if you might think the drive is failing, I should be able to return it, however, I'm not sure how to prove it is failing at this point. )
Thanks again for all of your assistance!

    Cheers,

    Jim

You can use the HD manufacturer's test utility - download it from their site and create the boot media - to test the HD.
Start with the quick scan (if offered) which does a sampling test. If that fails, back up before attempting the full scan.

If it does fail that test, then that should be sufficient proof for any manufacturer - just quote the error message when you contact them.
