This computer is not running Genuine Windows issue

    Hello!

I am getting the famous 'your copy of Windows is not genuine.' I followed the instructions in the other post and here is my MGADiag report is below.

I noticed a few weeks ago in my Windows Update log that important updates have been failing for some time now. The Windows version I have was installed when I bought the machine new from Dell, and I believe I have a valid key.

I obviously want to avoid a complete reinstall of Windows 7 if possible. Can anyone spot what I might be able to do?

    Thanks for any help!

    -jonathan

This may simply be caused by a bad set of Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers -

Installing the Intel Rapid Storage Drivers
try downloading and installing them from here - http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2101&DwnldID=21730

    (you want the iata_enu.exe download)

Once complete, please reboot twice, then post another MGADiag report.

Thank you for taking a look NoelDP, I really appreciate it!

I installed those drivers, rebooted once, then on second reboot, did a shutdown / restart, during shutdown, my computer tried installing updates (which failed). On restart, I re-entered / re-activated my license key, and here is my MGADiag report (still getting the file mismatches). I am going to try to install the 19 failed updates now.

Result of update: 22 failed installs, like before (Windows error code 8000FFFF, unknown), unfortunately. I wonder if Windows gets to the next step of disabling things, will my manual re-activation clear the issue and I can keep doing that indefinitely? Of course I want to find and solve the problem, I am somewhat resigned to reinstalling Windows in my future (though I will postpone that as long as possible).

    Thanks again!

Since the drivers installed, the problem is likely to be the second most common cause of this set of filemismatches - a broken catroot2 store....

Please run the following commands in an Elevated Command Prompt

    NET STOP CRYPTSVC
    REN C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CATROOT2 CATROOT2OLD
    NET START CRYPTSVC

once complete, leave the system alone for at least an hour to rebuild the database, then reboot, and run another MGADiag report.
Note that this may delete your Update History - but all updates will remain installed, and can be viewed in the Installed Updates listing.

Great news, I was able to successfully get the 22 pending updates into the system successfully. Since my last post, I looked online for Windows error code 8000FFFF, and then spent a few hours trying to clean the windows update mechanism through various suggestions there. The updates still failed this morning, but after I did your suggestion, then tried re-downloading/installing the updates, now they were installed successfully.

I have not seen the non-genuine message pop up yet, but I only installed the updates about 30 mins ago. I ran another MGADiag report a few minutes ago. No mismatch files, yay!

I don't know if I'm through the problems, but I definitely feel like it's big progress. Thanks so much for your help, I can't express in words how appreciative I am. You are awesome!
