Can't install Microsoft Visual C++ due to Code 8007370B error

Hi, first time doing this sort of thing so hopefully I post all the details you need. My son is unable to play some of his Steam games and gets this message "The program can't start because api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem." and also this message "The following component(s) are required to run this program: Microsoft Visual C++2015 Runtime". That program fails when I try to download it, probably because the first step doesn't work - to install all available Windows update. That results in the Error Code 8007370B. Hoping you can help please :) I can usually fix small computer problems using good old Google, but this time I am stumped. I was unable to do the SFC Scan, getting the message "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation." and my back ups haven't worked for a while, not sure if that is related?

    Hi Shazz,
    looking at the CBS now,
Service pack 1 does not seem to have installed correctly, which was possibly the reason behind all of the other failures

    ITS NOT LOOKIN GOOD.

    As i said previously make/model
    and OS type

Im of the opinion that a clean install is possibly the best way to go, bet he's impatient to play and using yours

If you want to go this route please run, copy/post the output from this tool.

    Hi Roy,
Just got that info from DxDiag, hope that covers the make/model and OS type. I thought it wasn't going to be an easy fix . We don't have any installation discs because it was custom built and the guy doesn't give you the discs. My son is impatient to play, but unfortunately...we share the same computer. Will now run the above recommended program and post the output (hopefully). Thanks.

    Hi Shazz,
how long ago did he install it. (2012?)
Its a counterfiet install, and looking at the errors on the system, i suspect that the discs were corrupt.

Yep, 2012. It's been back once for a 'clean up', but haven't been back since, not with the original graphics card failing within a year and then the RAM not long after :-(
What does this mean now, cause we want to stick with Windows 7? Thanks Roy.

    Hi Shazz,
Its not very nice being conned, you could try giong back to the shop, and asking for a set of legitimate
    >> RETAIL or System Builder << discs, the only ones that are valid for Custom built machines.
He probably wont which would mean purchasing a genuine set of the types i mentioned above, using any others to perform a clean install would more than likely cause the non-genuine to balloon appear on your system.
legitimate W7 discs are hard to come by nowadays, and not cheap. @Ranger4 its your neck of the woods, do you know of a reputable site.

Forum rules regarding piracy are quite strict, and therefor i am unable to pursue the matter further.

Thank you Roy for your time and effort, I really do appreciate it. :)
I've tracked down a Windows 7 Professional OEM for AUD$200, hopefully that's a valid disc for custom built machines.
