    WU w/IE10 Anomaly

On 2013.03.12 (yesterday) my computer informed me of many updates available. I installed them, all save one were successful. I was unable to identify the culprit update, so I sys. restored and re-installed them one at a time. The last one was IE 10 and required a restart. When my desktop was loading an error box titled 'ie4uinit.exe' appeared with error code 0xc000007b. I closed the box and the desktop/startup continued and completed without any 'visible' or operational incident except one. When I went to start the internet by cliking my IE icon nothing happens. I opened the task manager with the process tab visible. I cliked on the IE icon again and watched the task manager. I saw the ie task appear for about a second then it disappeared. So, for now, I have uninstalled the IE10 update and all seems well again.

Is there a known bug with this update?

Or are there other issues I should be cognizant of?

(FWIW, when I view 'Installed Updates' the list shows that the IE10 update installed 'successful' - in status column)

    -thank you

    Hello MourningStar,

If when you open IE9 and click on Help (menu bar) and About Internet Explorer, does it show IE9 now?

If so, then you might see if using OPTION TWO in the tutorial below to install IE10 using a standalone installer instead may work better for you.

Internet Explorer 10 - Install or Uninstall in Windows 7

    Hope this helps, :)

Thnx Shawn - I may try that. Is Ie10 'all that'? Meaning is it, like, 'to die for'/'can't live w/o it'? etc. etc.

My main concern is this specific situation. I have had this machine since 2009 and have never ever had a wu problem and would like to learn what has happened and why this has happened. I understand and appreciate the quick recommendations for solutions or work-arounds, but I also look for information that will educate and provide a means to self-resolve.

    thnx.

I think IE10 is fine. Luckily you can always uninstall if it's not your cup of tea. :)

Not sure what may have caused the WU issue, but if it's fine now, then I wouldn't worry about.

What AV program are you using?

If you are using a 3rd party AV program, then you might temporarily disable or uninstall it, then uninstall and reinstall IE10 to see if that may help.

In addition, here are some more IE10 installation troubleshooting steps.

I was not under the impression that I had a failed installation. In my initial post I state that the computer reports the installation as successful. Since nothing happened when I tried to fire up IE10 does this mean that the successful install report is incorrect and I should treat it as a failed installation?

Yep, if IE10 is not running properly, then it's a failed installation.

When looking up the error you got, all posts on it are recommending to troubleshoot with that to see if it may help.
