I keep forgetting you're in Safe Mode!
All those results are normal - I just rechecked my VM in Safe Mode, and discovered that the SPLDR driver doesn't load there, either! (I would have been prepared to lay money on it running) So we're back to trying to troubleshoot a boot to normal mode... Please open Event Viewer, and clear both the System event log, and the Application event log Close all, and reboot to normal mode. once it's got as far as it's going to, reboot back to Safe mode, and post the two new logs That way we don't have too much else going amiss. Once back in Safe Mode, try Clean boot into normal mode How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista Does it get any further? post the new logs again once you have a functioning system (either normal or Safe Mode) |

Good - the probability is that we can remove the CVH service completely (it's probably a hangover from the Office install)
Please open an Elevated Command Prompt and run the following commands REG EXPORT HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CVHSVC %userprofile%\desktop\cvhsvc.log REG DELETE HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CVHSVC That will create a backup of the entry on your desktop (just in case) and then delete the entry. reboot to normal mode - and leave the system for at least 15 minutes before forcing another reboot. once back in a functioning system, post the new Event logs again. |

Done.
Normal mode is still black. Ill leave it there for at least 15 minutes. Then Ill reboot. Do I try to reboot in Normal mode first or just go to Safe mode? |

A comment from one poster who had a similar problem.....
This turned out to be an application conflict. I had installed a program that allowed me to use my iPad as a second monitor. It was that program that was causing the problem. I removed the program and the problem was solved. The error involved was Code:
Log Name: Application Source: Desktop Window Manager Date: 27/03/2013 18:03:44 Event ID: 9009 Task Category: None Level: Information Keywords: Classic User: N/A Computer: iMichael Description: The Desktop Window Manager has exited with code (0x40010004) |
