    Windows 7 tokens.dat CORRUPT


    Hi,

    I am trying to activate windows 7 Pro 64 using a valid key i purchased from MS. I have tried everything to activate but I cannot rename tokens.dat. It says that it is corrupt and unreadable. I have ran chkdsk and everything possible to rename this file, but i can't. PLEASE HELP!!

    You have some interesting errors.


    Please first try recreating Licensing Store.

    Recreate the Licensing Store
    Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories
    Right-Click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator - accept the UAC prompt
    Run the following commands in the Command Prompt window, using the Enter key at the end of each

    net stop sppsvc
    (wait until the service has stopped before entering the following lines)

    CD %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
    REN tokens.dat tokens.bar
    net start sppsvc
    slui.exe

    After a couple of seconds the Windows Activation dialog will appear.
    You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key, or Activation may occur automatically.
    If you are asked for your Key, use the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case

    Reboot and Post back with a new MGADiag report

    Sorry about the delay!


    I've uploaded a file - s99aa.zip - to my SkyDrive at Noel's SkyDrive
    Please download and save it.

    Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...
    Change the target to C:\ and click on Extract
    Close all windows (it would be a good idea to print these instructions!)
    Now reboot to the Repair Environment - as soon as the machine restarts, start tapping F8 - this should bring up the Advanced Boot Menu, at the top of which should be the option 'Repair my Computer'
    Pick that
    You'll have to log in with your username and password.

    Pick the option to use a Command Prompt
    At the prompt type
    DIR C:\s99aa
    hit the enter key - if you get a 'Not Found' error try
    DIR D:\s99aa
    or
    DIR E:\s99aa


    The drive letter in use when you find the folder will need to be substituted (for<drive>) into the following command...

    XCOPY <drive>:\s99aa <drive>:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h

    (e.g.XCOPY P:\wfire P:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h )

    run the command (it should take almost no time)and when the prompt returns, type
    EXIT
    and hit the Enter key to exit Command Prompt - reboot to Normal Mode Windows.

    Now run SFC /SCANNOW in an Elevated Command Prompt
    then reboot and upload the new CBS.log file to your SkyDrive Public folder, and post a new link

    Also run a new MGADiag report, and post the result.

    I have nothing to post, because it worked!!!! After applying your patch and after the SCAN then reboot, the system did an extensive chkdsk.. When it came up it asked me to activate i did. And presto +VALID MS KEY finally working!!! The only thing it did on my last reboot was try to chkdsk again ? Can I stop that, or should i leave it ?

    As to the CHKDSK, let it run through once - if it wants to do it again after than, post back and we'll clear the 'dirty bit'
