Windows 7 Ult, updates won't run, Fixit crashes; error 0xc800247
Panasonic Toughbook laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate. MyComputer/Properties says Windows is activated and shows my correct activation code. Except for the update errors, everything seems to be running normally.
Three weeks ago I changed my 160 gb laptop hard drive with a 500gb WD drive. I had Ghost 15 disk images for partitions C: and D:. The restore worked fine and everything seemed normal. Then I started getting daily messages that windows was not activated or valid and I needed to install and run WindowsActivationUpdate.exe. Doing that gives me an error message from Windows Standalone Installer - 0xc800247. I downloaded and ran SURT. I got the same error message
This error code appears in numbers posts on many websites. Some "answers" say to update Intel hard drive drivers. Running Intel update software does not show my any recommended updates to disk drivers. My Computer says the driver for my hard drive is from Microsoft.
I have tried various other proposed fixes. None of them worked.
Running WindowsUpdate gets a message that "cannot check for updates because the service is not running." In Services, it says the Windows Update service is automatic and running. I've tried stopping and starting. Same errors. This problem has been widely reported.
MS support sent me to the Fixit site. Running the Fixit for Windows Update gets a Fixit crash. The tech had me run several other Fixits that didn't help. He said it was probably malware. But too many people are reporting this error with no one coming up with a malware cause.
Running MGADiag.exe gets:
