Error 9C59 when using Windows Update to install IE10

    Hey,

I have been experiencing a 9C59 error when trying to update to IE10 on this PC. I have followed all of the troubleshooting advice available from Microsoft, ensuring all pre-requisites are installed etc.

I have attached three CBS.zip files here for evaluation (sorry had to split them to upload) and would greatly appreciate any help you can give on this issue.

    Thanks!

Interesting - It looks to me as if you installed IE9 before installing any updates to IE8?
I wonder if we can fool the system a little? :)

I don't *think* that this will hurt anything - and it's easy enough to undo if it does - but please back up first!

    I've uploaded a file - i64aa.zip - to my SkyDrive at Noel's SkyDrive
    Please download and save it.

Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...
Change the target to C:\ and click on Extract
Close all windows (it would be a good idea to print these instructions!)
Now reboot to the Repair Environment - as soon as the machine restarts, start tapping F8 - this should bring up the Advanced Boot Menu, at the top of which should be the option 'Repair my Computer'
    Pick that
You'll have to log in with your username and password.

Pick the option to use a Command Prompt
    At the prompt type
    DIR C:\i64aa
hit the enter key - if you get a 'Not Found' error try
    DIR D:\i64aa
    or
    DIR E:\i64aa

The drive letter in use when you find the folder will need to be substituted (for<drive>) into the following command...

    XCOPY <drive>:\i64aa <drive>:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h

    (e.g.XCOPY P:\wfire P:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h )

run the command (it should take almost no time)and when the prompt returns, type
    EXIT
and hit the Enter key to exit Command Prompt - reboot to Normal Mode Windows.

Now attempt the update again, and post a new CBS log.
(I'm expecting further errors to show up)

    Hey thanks for that,

Unfortunately there is no option similar to "Repair Windows" in the Advanced Boot Menu. I checked the Microsoft FAQ on this feature here and it seems I need to get an installation disc to use this feature.

I'll try to do that tomorrow and post the results here!

    Thanks.
