Windows 7 Activation Problem

I installed win 7 Ultimate 32 bit with my Pre-activated OEM disk. I also updated it with SP1. I’ve been using it for 2 years without problems. Recently I sold my Laptop for some problems and created a backup of my windows following this post. Yesterday I bought new laptop [another brand] and tried to restore my backup windows image. But it shows activation problem. I collect my product key from previous laptop and tried to activate with it. But it shows the massage bellow. Is there any way to activate it with my Pre-activated OEM disk?

It might be you are not allowed to activate your OEM copy of Windows on another PC. Your best shot is to try phone activation: Activate Windows 7 by Phone

Thanks a lot, Kari. I missed to read the warning above. I'm clear now. Is there any way to backup and restore my Activation or product key without Activating Windows 7 by Phone. (Your link= Activate Windows 7 by Phone)

All other activation methods would be against the End User Agreement (EULA).

The only valid way is to activate as Windows should be activated, entering the product key, and if it does not for one or another reason work contact Microsoft by phone.

Ignore errors produced when clicking on the Copy button - they simply mean that the tool could not create the backup files for some reason. The data is still copied to the clipboard for pasting to your response.

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

Noel, he has generalized an OEM installation with generalize switch to capture an image to be moved to another computer. Sysprep /generalize automatically removes all activation information, next normal boot is OOBE boot and restored image must be reactivated.

As it is an OEM image in another computer than in which it was earlier activated, I believe I have given valid information?

The Generalize switch in a build is supposed to remove the Key from the registry completely, as I understand it - therefore leaving the install with a Default Key, and the proper 'client' key then has to be inserted via the unattend route, or manually.
The reason I asked for the report is so that we know which Key is currently in use, since neither the Default Key, nor the OEM_SLP Key can be activated in the normal internet/phone manner, and the error code is one which indicates that one of these Keys is in use.
If it is indeed an OEM install, then the OEM_SLP Key would not activate in the new computer unless
1) the new machine is the same make as the old
AND
2) the new machine shipped with a Win7 BIOS SLIC table

It would therefore require that the new machine have a COA sticker for the same OS version and edition as the old one, and that the COA Key be swapped in.

That's about why I have included that warning in the tutorial. Transferring an OEM image is tricky, often impossible.
