    Message from Windows 7

My sister has a computer with an original Windows 7 Ultimate installed on it and the computer keeps coming up stating "Windows is not running genuine software", I do not understand this when the original disk was used to install Windows and we did put in the reg key when asked during installation.

The system is running a Gigabyte GA-G41MT-D3 with 4Gb Ram and 500Gb Hard drive.

Can someone please tell me what is happening here and if this can be fixed, any help appreciated.

In order to completely troubleshoot Windows validation & activation issues, please perform the following:

    1. Download and save this tool to your desktop:
    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

    2. Run the tool, and then click Copy - ignore any errors if they appear

    3. Use CTRL+V to paste the unedited results of the tool here in your next reply

In addition is this factory preinstalled Win7 with a COA sticker on the PC? Did you input the Product Key from the sticker?

If not where did you get WIn7 and which Product Key was used to activate it?

WIn7 bought from any other than a reputable retailer can be counterfeit. If this is the case then your best bet is to insist on a refund, file a case with MS Customer Service which may provide you with a replacement copy if you cooperate with their investigation.

But where did you buy the disk from?

If online do you have a link?

How long has it been installed and activated, and how long did it take to flag non-geniune?

My sister got the Windows 7 Ultimate from Harvey Norman store.

Please answer the other questions so we can help you best.

If you bought it at a major retailer then you really have nothing to worry about. They should make it good.

However we need to know if it activated when you first installed it, and if so how long it ran before saying it is Non Geniune.

    How exactly was it installed?

This suggest a factory HP OEM install....it doesn't appear that the installation from the retail disk was installed. Can you confirm that the HDD was formatted, and then Windows reinstalled from the retail disk you got from Harvey Norman?

On the disk you bought from Harvey Norman, does it have the letters OEM on the disk anywhere?

As I have stated it was purchased from Harvey Norman. It was installed onto a new, clean hard drive with nothing else on it. This was installed directly from the new Windows 7 disk, opened from the package and the Registration key was enter during installation and it ran for about 6 months before this started happening.
