Why my original key isn't wokring when I formated my laptop !!!!

I have an HP Pavilion dv6-3190ee and since i bought my laptop i had the original windows 7 Home Premium x64 installed and the sticker is on the back of my laptop.

Yesterday I had to format my laptop because I have been infected by a virus.

As I don't have a Windows 7 DVD so I downloaded a copy of windows 7 home premium 64 bit.

When i was installing the windows asked me for my product key, I entered they key I have on the back of my laptop.

After installation is done, I "right click" on my computer>>properties and I see in the bottom of the window saying that i have a trial time until I activate my windows !!!

Why my key didn't work and do I have now to buy a new Windows 7 license ?? or is there anything i can do to have back the original key i had on my laptop!!

    Thank you

Hello Anthos, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you like, use the tutorial below to re-enter the product key number. Be sure to double check that you have entered each character from the product key correctly.

    It's not hard to mistake an 6 for a G or O for a 0 for example.

    Hope this helps, :)

Maybe it just didn't have enough time to activate. It will try to activate automatically within 72 hours of the installation. You have to be connected to the internet for this to succeeed.

I had the same problem when I used to have my Toshiba, I had to re-install Windows because a couple of people messed it up and after it came back up I didn't know that I had to re-enter the product key until about a month later and I had tried to enter that product key in at least 3 or 4 times because you could barely see the product key and after the 4th time Windows finally took it, it was faded out because the laptop was purchased back in 2010

Please follow this tutorial and post an MGADiag report - then we can see what the problem is (if any).

Ignore errors produced when clicking on the Copy button - they simply mean that the tool could not create the backup files for some reason. The data is still copied to the clipboard for pasting to your response.

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!
