    Windows 7 Update error 0x800B0100

I've got a user that has been having the Windows 7 SP1 update fail after multiple install attempts. You can probably guess that I've browsed the web several times over and can find no resolution to the issue. The error code is the rather bland 0x800B0100 - the least helpful error code since the days of "there is no article for this error code."

I have done the SURT. All it does is install a hotfix. I did see that the hotfix was successfully installed, but upon running the SURT again, it just tries to install the same hotfix and provides no further feedback.

I also tried the fixit tool, which was predictably unhelpful.

An SFC scan produced no issues.

I checked the CheckSUR log, and it indicates a "CBS MUM corrupt 0x800F0900" and "CBS Catalog Corrupt 0x800B0100" along with a string of "unavailable repair files".

Making this more of a challenge is that I am attempting to perform this fix remotely, so I do not have constant hands on the machine. Please bear with me if you request that I try something.

I performed virus and adware scans just to make certain and everything came up clean. And finally, just to make certain it was not some kind of issue downloading the update, I also tried installing the SP1 update manually via a downloaded installer.

Any help you guys can provide will be very much appreciated.

    Thank you

(I'd love to know what you define as 'no issues'!)

I'll post a fix protocol for it a bit later.

    I've uploaded a file - rjsaa.zip - to my SkyDrive at Noel's SkyDrive
    Please download and save it.
Right-click on the downloaded file, and select Extract all…
Extract to the default location - which will create a new folder rjsaa in the same place.
Open this folder - there should be one folder inside it (Packages)

Copy the content of the Packages folder to the folder
    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages

Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

Post the new CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log file.

Assuming the CheckSUR report is now clear, please reboot, then run another SFC /SCANNOW and post the new CBS.log file.
