WIN 7 x64 Updates failing - DWrite.dll failures 800B0100/8007065E
Running Windows 7 Ultimate x64, had absolutely no issues until attempting to perform a windows update today, everything has always been up-to-date and I believe there were several patches and security hot fix issues today/yesterday. All the updates had downloaded and begun installing when my system hung, no error, mouse was moving but nothing responding, left it for ages, ultimately I had to hard power off.
Upon rebooting I immediately received the same error message twice in reference to 2 different programs when logging into windows
One was in reference to steam and the other another program.
I have since noticed this same error message appears when attempting to install certain programs, I tried to install a adobe acrobat firefox plugin update and it gave me the exact same message during installation, and failed.
Ontop of this it seems Windows Explorer randomly hangs, but always fixes itself, this never occurred before. Some software upon loading is also acting slightly odd, such as lack of graphics or text. MS help for one, when I restored to it for the MS update error codes always drew a blank screen.
Ok, so when I attempted to update the first time, 1 seemed to succeed but I think that was the one installation it crashed during that atarted this whole thing, initially I kept attempting to update to resolve it and got 2-4 more updates done successfully but always with several others failing till I got to the point no more would succeed. So when I go to update now I receive this,
12 updates
When attempting to install,
I have tried rebooting several times and all the above repeats, same errors regarding DWrite.dll and MS updates fail.
When I was referring to certain software showing blank screens, like the MS help window, they appear as such
I can interact and even get them to run but nothings showing on them
I'm slightly worried I've made things worse as I tried to restore the file DWrite.dll from a WHS backup from 3 days ago. It hasn't made any difference as far as I'm aware and that's the only thing I've attempted.
Following the help here I have
1) Downloaded and ran SURT, twice, it completed both times but the box that appeared after completion was blank, so as far as I can see it has made no difference.
2) Ran sfc command in elevated CMD prompt several times, rebooting after each and it always stating there were some errors it could not fix, i'll see if I can post a log after this. I had problems cleaning the log when attempting to do a clean procedure.
3) Windows update error codes are as above in image or here
error 800B0100
error 8007065E
4) CBS Logs as attached
Any help at all with this is greatly appreciated, if you need any more information please do ask away.
5) Have added MGAdiag if useful.
Notes:
- I have no system restore, as I disabled it when I installed an SSD so I can't go down that path.
- I have both an every day full WHS 2011 backup of the system and Acronis True Image backup of the system. If my issues mean recovering from a previous state then I have both those options at hand.
- I have also considered using built in system repair from win 7 boot up disc, any thoughts if this maybe necessary and best route to take if so?
- CHKDSK revealed no issues, spyware scan revealed no hits.
