Windows Updates error 80004002, tried multiple solutions
Hello members,
This is my first post on SevenForums. I'm posting here because I found a similar thread but with a rather harsh solution, doing a repair install. Before I'm doomed to do the same I was hoping someone would like to take a look at my problem, solutions I tried and attached logs. And maybe give me some advise.
Problem
Since a few days Windows update suggests to install the same updates over and over. After installing the updates it offered the same updates again and again. I could see that the updates were installed in the update history overview. However as soon as I clicked on "look for updates" it gives me the error code: 80004002.
After trying all the solutions below I tried a system restore yesterday. I restored my system to the oldest possible restore point (June 28th, 2013) without success however. At this point it won't even offer me the 2 updates it did before. Moreover in the update history overview no updates are shown at all. When I try to look for updates I still get the error code 80004002.
Solutions tried
I tried all the solutions below that I found on the internet of Microsoft knowledge base. I tried these solution under several circumstances, under normal Windows startup, under diagnostic clean startup using msconfig.exe and under safe mode. None of them with success.
Sorry if all linked sites are in dutch, couldn't find them in English.
Restore Windows update
Tried to restore Windows update using this site and applying WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab
Reinstalled Windows update client
Tried to reinstall Windows update client using this site and applying windowsupdateagent30-x64.exe
It gives an error when trying to install. Translated from Dutch to English (see attached jpg):
Unrecoverable error occurred in Windows Update Agent-installationprogram
Microsoft Fit-It
Tried Microsoft Fix-It using this site and applied Fix-It program. It seems you can choose aggressive mode but I don't see that option. I can only choose between default repair (program decides what to repair) and custom repair (user decides what to repair). I used both options without success.
Microsoft System Update Readiness
I used the Microsoft System Update Readiness from this site but without success. I attached the CBS.log files.
Microsoft Answers Manual Method
On the community side Microsoft Answers I found a thread with a manual repair method that I tried. Not all suggested operations that needed to be performed worked. Many dll's gave an error when trying to register them manually (see attached jpg for an example).
I'm sorry the thread is in Dutch again but probably you can see how the repair process is supposed to look like.
Unable to install update manual method
I tried the solution explained at this Microsoft site but it's more related to being unable to install updates. Not all steps of the suggested methods worked without getting an error.
Virus and Malware scanning
I used AVG Free Edition to scan for viruses (found nothing). I used Malware Bytes and Windows Defender to scan for spy / malware. See attached Maleware Bytes log.
CHKDSK and SFC will follow after scanning for viruses and maleware.
