Windows repeatedly trying to install the same updates.

    Hi,

For the past month or so I've been having a problem with my PC; whenever I shut the computer down it keeps trying to install the same updates despite them being listed as "Successful". I've tried all sorts of supposedly automated fixes and none have worked. The only thing which seemed relevant which I was able to find was someone who suggested the problem was due to AVG PC Tuneup in some way, however I have now uninstalled that program and the problem persists.

I'm not being given any error codes, have attached the "Logs" folder.

Any help would be much appreciated. :)

ALL registry 'cleaners' are dangerous - no matter who they come from.

It looks like the critical problem is related to the following errors...
    Code:
2013-08-20 20:56:06, Error CBS Failed to call external evaluate applicability on package: Package_1_for_KB2536275~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.1.1.2, Update: 2536275-1_neutral_LDR [HRESULT = 0x800f0902 - CBS_E_BUSY]
2013-08-20 20:56:06, Info CBS Failed to evaluate external applicability for package update: 2536275-25_neutral_PACKAGE [HRESULT = 0x800f0902 - CBS_E_BUSY]
2013-08-20 20:56:06, Error CBS Failed to call external evaluate applicability on package: Package_for_KB2536275_SP1~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.1.1.2, Update: 2536275-25_neutral_PACKAGE [HRESULT = 0x800f0902 - CBS_E_BUSY]
2013-08-20 20:56:06, Info CBS Failed to evaluate external applicability for package update: 2536275-29_neutral_PACKAGE [HRESULT = 0x800f0902 - CBS_E_BUSY]
2013-08-20 20:56:06, Error CBS Failed to call external evaluate applicability on package: Package_for_KB2536275~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.1.1.2, Update: 2536275-29_neutral_PACKAGE [HRESULT = 0x800f0902 - CBS_E_BUSY]
It's not a common problem - I'll have to do some research on it and get back to you.

Strangely, the errors merely indicate that the TrustedInstaller service is busy - the usual solution is to try again later.

Please run a new set of CheckSUR and SFC and post the new logs - also attempt installing the patch again, and then post the new C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log file

Okay, I followed the instructions and tried installing the Hotfix that I downloaded here again, is that what you meant by the patch or am I missing something? I also ran another SFC scan but the problems still persist. I've attached the WindowsUpdate.log file.

Thanks again for all your help.

Both CheckSUR and SFC scans are clear - and the background CBS log seems also to be error-free.

Which exact updates are being reinstalled?

Looking at the update history it seems there is just one update that is continually installing itself...

Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 x86 (KB2487367)

I suggest trying a manual install....
Download Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 from Official Microsoft Download Centre
    you'll want the NDP40-KB2487367-x86.exe file.

please note the exact error, if you get one, then upload the c:\windows\windowsupdate.log file and we'll see what we see.

I downloaded and tried a manual install, restarted the PC and still the problem persists.

I assume any error code would be displayed in the update history list? The update I've just done is listed as successful there.

I'll attach the log as requested.

OK - Please go to the Installed Updates list, and attempt to uninstall KB2487367
    What happens?

If it succeeds, reboot, then do a manual Search for Updates, and try installing the oldest update found - what happens? (is it KB2487367? if so, reboot, and do another Check for Updates - what happens then?)
