    Windows Update Error 8024402f

I just bought a new desktop computer. Did a fresh raw install of Windows 7 OEM onto a blank hard drive. The computer is connected directly to my modem. I have an internet connection and have no issue loading most sites.
I'm clearly having some kind of connection issue, but I can't figure it out. Windows Update keeps giving me error 8024402F, which is related to the comp. not reaching the update servers. This seems to be a larger problem though. I can't update my steam account or connect to the steam network. On top of that, some websites won't load, particularly microsoft sites. They just time out. I have seen a few errors in the event log about finding the master browser. Not sure if that's related.
I've tried running the microsoft fix it in aggressive mode and run the network troubleshooting application. Both fix any issues they find, but I keep having the same issues.
I just ran the MGA diagnostic. Here's the report:

I doubt that this is activation/validation -related.
