Seriously upset. Latest update rolled back my PC

Second time this has happened. The latest update has reeked havoc with my computer.

    - Default settings seem to have been universally applied, cancelling all my settings - everything from what my desktop background is to what folders are on the desktop.

    - All Mozilla favourites are gone

    - Folders that used to be on my desktop a year ago have reappeared...others that I have had there recently have vanished

    - All the VAIO crap that I disabled is back with a vengeance functioning

    - Everything that I got rid of from the task bar...all the crap is back

    - Files that I had in folders on the desktop are gone...images, music, documents...gone

    - Can't even change the desktop background...just won't do it.

    - In My Computer all the folders are doubled....2 My Computer Folders, 2 Desktop folders, 2 Pictures folders, 2 Videos folders, 2 Favourites folders. One version of the folder has stuff I have been using recently and the other folder contains stuff that reflects how my computer was a year ago.

    What...the...F????

F.... YOU Windows update. I'm changing to a MAC next computer.

This is the second time you've done this to me. The first time was hell and I'm damned if I can remember how I fixed everything.

    Any advice?

    thanks

Hold the phone...after the first series of updates...there was another...after the second series of updates all is back to normal.

    You're lucky this time Windows...

What do you mean 1st series of updates, then second?

Save yourself a lot of pain and aggravation ... make an image of your system.. It's a lot easier to restore an image, than it is to have to re-install your OS.

Well...a notification popped up saying there are updates available...so I updated and restarted...then after the restart my computer was foobar'd...then I go into updates via control panel and see that there are 7 more updates including an update for Microsoft Security Essentials and some other stuff...hmmm...thanks for not telling me about those...so I downloaded and installed those updates, restarted and all ok...except I lost my desktop background...that's vanished somehow.

It's just the principle of the thing...here I am installing updates from MICROSOFT...to HELP my computer...and it does the opposite.

Anyway...all is well that concludes well

I hope you uninstalled it, thank goodness I have not done any of the 40 machines I need to deploy the updates. I have their settings on download the updates but allow me to install them. I do not have any of my machines on automatic updates, because of all this
It seems like for the past couple of months one or more of these updates have been causing major problems for windows 7

Just did it again. Same thing happened as my OP.

I see there are 2 additional updates waiting to be installed. Let's see if installing them fixes my stupid computer.
