Yes that's essentially it. Can we ignore the KMS part since this machine was never networked? I activated it in 2010 just as a regular standalone pc.
Would you know why there seems to be a connection between network adapter and activation status? It seems when network adapter is enabled, even if the PC is disconnected from router, the activation status shows up fine.

That would have to be answered by someone who knows this more than I do . He will be on later .
Thanks VistaKing. I really appreciate the help. I'll keep checking back.
You're Welcome . Have you tried giving MS a call ? Talk to a real person ? If you keep tapping on the zero button on the phone you will be sent to a live person .
I called MS activation center and spoke to live support this time. We went through the same steps I did earlier for automated phone activation. I got the successful activation message like before. But when I disabled network adapter, the same "3 days until automatic activation..." came back. The support rep said I should ignore it. He gave me the technical support number. I'll have to call them tomorrow during regular business hours.
I am still mystified why the network adapter is affecting activation status.
What you're looking for is
Code:Windows Validation Data--> Validation Code: 0 Cached Online Validation Code: 0
Thanks for pointing that out VistaKing! My reports are always showing "Cached Online Validation Code: N/A, hr = 0xc004f012". Another post on this forum has useful info on this -> Windows is reporting it isn't genuine, Validation code 0x8004FE21
Actually it doesn't quite fix the "Cached Online Validation Code: N/A, hr = 0xc004f012". His last post still shows non-zero.
Please go to www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate and attempt validation - what happens?
Are you using any form of registry cleaner/optimiser?
What security software is installed?
Hi Noel, www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate checks out. I get
