    Genuine Windows validation failure

    Hi

Despite my ASUS notebook having the original WIN7 product key sticker on the bottom of it, I keep getting validation failure mesage.

I presume its because I did a hard drive replacement 3 months ago, but my recovery DVD's did not work ( just got stuck halfway through the installation despite me leaving it installing overnight ) when I re-installed Win 7, so I used a genuine win7 disk previously received with a different new PC. I used the right product code ( the one on the sticker on my notebook ) & all went ok.

Now I keep getting the validation failure message & re-inputting the code continues to give a failure message after it tries to validate. If anyone thinks there is a chance this can be resolved without me having to completely re-install I'll send through the MGSdiag report with a new post.

    Help appreciated

    Cheers
    Mike

I should also mention that the windows 7 disk I used for the re-instal was an original ASUS Recovery Media, just not issued with the Notebook in question ( its from 2009 ). I would have thought that this should be ok for any ASUS product. No ?

Please follow this tutorial and post an MGADiag report - then we can see what the problem is.

    https://www.sevenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/234159-windows-genuine-activation-issue-posting-instructions.html

Ignore errors produced when clicking on the Copy button - they simply mean that the tool could not create the backup files for some reason. The data is still copied to the clipboard for pasting to your response.

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

You need to change the Product Key to the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case (or inside the battery compartment), using the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System properties page.

You may need to activate by phone.

Yes already done that. Message says "The product key you have entered does not appear to be a valid windows 7 product key". Tried it again just now as well & got the same message.

Just to mention that the product key mentioned on the report ( Windows Product Key: *****-*****-PWB9R-4K7W4-2BT4J ) is not the same as the one on the notebook's microsoft sticker. I owned the machine from new so I know its the right one & was the one I used to validate the installation in the first place 3 months ago.

Does this mean that I have to phone microsoft ? Or do I need to go back to Asus ?

Computers that come pre-installed with Windows from large manufacturers usually come with two Product Keys.

OEM SLP: This is the key that came in Windows (from the factory). It works by connecting to a BIOS flag (the SLIC table) found only on computers from that Manufacturer. It also checks for the existence of proper matching licenses in the OS itself. Once it sees both, it self-activates every time the machine is rebooted.

COA SLP: This is the key seen on the sticker located on the side, bottom or in the battery compartment of your machine. This key is for use if the OEM SLP self-activation stops working for whatever reason.

The Key in your report is actually one from a Samsung computer - and will only work on a Samsung.
Check the Key you are entering is correct - some characters are very easy to misread (usually the problem is between B and 8 ).

Sorry to butt in here Noel, but could this be the problem?

I should also mention that the windows 7 disk I used for the re-instal was an original ASUS Recovery Media, just not issued with the Notebook in question ( its from 2009 ). I would have thought that this should be ok for any ASUS product. No ?
