    Windows update settings

    Hello-

I have two questions about windows update.

First is whether there is anyway to completely disable Windows update from bugging me about restarting my computer to install updates. I know about setting the interval to the max of 1440 in the group policy editor and I know how to manually kill the service with net stop wuauserv. Neither of those stop it from coming back completely.

The second is if there is anyway to unsubscribe from getting microsoft's monthy malware removal tool update. Seems trivial I know, but I get tired of hiding it.

    Thank you

    Hello livevil,

You could use the tutorial below to disable Windows Update automatic restart to let you manually restart when you're ready to.
It's would best to always install the Malicious Software Removal Tool (MRT) updates to help keep your system safer.

    Hope this helps, :)

    Thank you for your reply.

I am not talking about automatic restart, I don't want any reminder to restart my computer.

I don't like the license agreement from microsoft about the mrt and I don't want to install it.

Unfortunately, there's nothing that can be done about MRT showing up in Windows Update each month other than hiding it.

When you install an update that needs to restart the PC to finish, then it's going to remind you to restart the PC until you do. I'm not sure that it can be stopped other than restarting the PC to do so.
