With all due respect Noel, everyone is saying there are NO error messages so what is the purpose in using SURT? We are almost all having the same issue which is related to KB2760588, KB2760583, KB2760411. The problem appears to be on MS's end. As all 3 have been successfully installed it seems to me that harin35's solution of hiding these 3 updates is the best option for the time being.
Just because there are no error messages, that soen't mean that there are no problems with the system.
The background CBS logs data also contains relevant data which may indicate the problem.

I had this problem on my Vista 64 machine with Office 2007. It kept asking to install the 3 "important" updates, and said it succeeded, but apparently did not, because it would soon ask to install them again. When I tried to shutdown, selecting "Install Updates and Shutdown", it would appear to complete the installation of updates, but hang on the "Shutting down". I went into Control Panel and uninstalled the updates, several times each, then tried reinstalling them 1 at a time. Each time it would hang on the "Shutting Down" and I had to do a forced power off. After the 3rd install, I waited a much longer time (I didn't time it, but it was probably 20-30 minutes) for the "Shutting Down" to complete. Much to my surprise, it finally succeeded in shutting down. I think the problem is fixed, as the "You have Updates" prompt has not reappeared. For awhile I wondered if I had acquired a virus.

The other update that wants to reinstall repeatedly is KB2760590 which is a security update for Microsoft Excel Viewer 2007. I am using Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium Service Pack 1.

One comment confirms that the repeated offering has stopped while others still insist that its still re-offering to which MS has replied that it might take some time for the updates to propagate...

I hid the repeating updates yesterday and restored them just now. After clicking the "check for updates" option, those updates disappeared. Looks like the problem's solved for me.
I had the problem with KB 2760411, 17 times. I don't use Microsoft Office, I use one of the free programs. I uninstalled the Microsoft Office program that one of their updates installed, (Activate if you've paid, Order if not, and Trial Program) on Tuesday, and also deleted their PowerPoint Program (I'll reinstall it later). Problem solved on this Windows Seven 32/64, Toshiba i7, laptop.
