build 7601 This copy of windows is not genuine, error code 0xc004f063

Hi...I have read all other available posts on this issue, and tried following relevant instructions, but can't resolve my problem.

About 2 months ago, my laptop (Samsung NP-P530) was infected with malware. We formatted the hard drive and re-installed windows. I had a copy of all my licence keys and had previously backed-up all my files. After about a month, i started receiving notifications that my copy of windows was not genuine, even though I am using the same product key that was on the laptop before the rebuild.
    • I have not changed any hardware
    • I have checked the BIOS version is the same as that on Samsungs website
    • I can't read the sticker on the bottom of the machine, as it is too worn

Below is the result of the MGA Diagnostic report

It looks to me as if you've reinstalled the OS using retail media.

You need to change the Product Key to the oneon the COA sticker on the machine's case (or inside the batterycompartment), using the Change ProductKey link at the bottom of the System properties page.

You may need toactivate by phone.

    thanks for the prompt response.

I spoke to my colleague who reinstalled the software for me, and you are correct that he used a retail version to re-install, but the key that he used was that from the BellArc profile from my laptop. We can't verify this against the COA sticker, as it has become so worn, that you cannot make out the product key.
This is the first time I have had issues with the product key since i have had the computer, which is a couple of years, so I assume the BellArc profile is correct. Windows was already installed when I bought the machine, so I don't have a disk of any sort, hence I created the BellArc profile.

I have tried contacting Samsung through live chat...but despite advertising certain office hours, no-one seems to be manning the desk for Africa. As for activating by phone, I would if I could find a number, but their help function just directs you to the web..preferably to forums, so if you have a number I could call, I would be very grateful.

Samsung have a very bad reputation for assistance in this particular area....

Your problem isthat for some reason, the system is unable to properly read the SLIC table inthe BIOS, which is required to be able to self-activate the OEM_SLP Key withwhich the computer came installed.

The normalsolution is to change the Key to the one on your COA sticker - but you say thatyou are unable to read the Key there.

In suchcircumstances, the only things you can do are

    1) recreate theLicensing Store - in case it's a minor software problem causing the misread

    2) try updatingthe BIOS to the latest available Vista-compliant one, from the manufacturer'swebsite

    3) Contact themanufacturer direct, and see if they can provide assistance to correct the SLICtable

    4) a reformat andreinstall using the manufacturer's recovery media

    5) purchase a newlicense for Windows (or a new computer)

In your case, 1, 2 and 3 are irrelevant, since the SLIC table is being read properly, and appears valid - so you need to go to 4 and 5

There *may* be analternative solution though, if you are patient and persistent.

Attempt TelephoneActivation, and speak to an operator - they will tell you that your current Keyis blocked (they should then ask for confirmation of your Product Key). Explainto them your problem, that you need to change the Key to the one on your sticker, but that the sticker is unreadable (could they please supply a replacementKey?). Hopefully they will ask for documentary proof of the sticker, in theform of an email with a picture of the affected sticker - and you can proceedfrom there.

Sometimes ittakes two or three calls before you get an operator who actually knows and usesthis procedure - but I know that it can and does happen.

    Hi NoelDP

unfortunately 4 is not an option, as I don't have a manufacturers recovery media disk and 5 seems unfair, as I have paid for the software and hardware through a legitimate retailer.

I would like to try the telephone activation, but am not given that option (that I can see) when trying to activate the software. Do you know of a number I could call?

As an aside, how long can I continue running the software in its current state? before something goes horribly wrong?

    Mark,

    Do this:

    1. Click Start and in the Search box type : slui.exe 4
    2. Press ENTER on your Keyboard
    3. Select your Country.
    4. Select the Phone Activation option, and hold on for a real person.

You can try and order a set of Recovery Media from Samsung for your machine - either through their website or by phone.

As far as the Activation numbers are concerned, use your local umber off this list

    @ NoelDP
    thanks for the advice.

I managed to get hold of Microsoft...you are right I needed patience and the 3rd person was v helpful. she used support.me remote access to try and activate the software, but couldn't. She confirmed that the prod key is valid, but something is locked (somehow?) by Samsung, so Microsoft can't activate it....back to samsung.

    @Golden
thanks...but phone activation is missing from the usual list of options, which is apparently why I have to go to samsung for help.

    Oh DEAR!
The MS operator got it totally the wrong way around.
Here is the true problem ...

The installed Key you are using is an OEM_SLP Key - which requires activation on every boot, using licenses which only exist in the Manufacturer's Recovery software, together with certificates in the BIOS SLIC table - this Key is blocked from activation (by Microsoft themselves, before the launch of Windows 7).
Because your friend used a Retail disk to reinstall, the required licenses are missing, so boot-self-activation fails - and you get a non-genuine notice with an 0xC004F063 error.

This can ONLY be cured by either
    1) reinstalling with the proper manufacturer's Recovery media (which Samsung are noted for refusing to supply unless still under guarantee).
    or
    2) using a valid Full License key for the proper edition of Windows.

Because your COA sticker is illegible, you cannot provide the proper Key - therefore you have to acquire either a proper Key, or the proper software licenses (either by getting the REcovery media and reinstalling using that, or by applying a new Key).

MS have in the past provided new Keys FOC in such situations - specifically for a Samsung machine - and you should go back to them and press the point.

Thanks for all your help. Before I saw your last response, I finally got hold of samsung. They said I needed to go into a licensed service centre. They couldn't resolve the issue then and there, but discovered a recovery partition. They told me to go home, backup my files and then hold down f4 upon rebooting. When I did, I was given the option to restore from the recovery section. Everything seems to be working now.
