    Error 9C59 : Installation of IE10 fails on Win7 Pro x64

    Hi,

installation of IE10 on Win7 pro x64 always fails with error code 9C59. "Help on this error" shows error code: "WindowsUpdate_00009C59" "WindowsUpdate_dt000"

    I have IE9 installed.

    What I tried by now:

As nothing seems to help, I now follow instructions from Windows Update Posting Instructions to ask for your help.

    • Installed System Update Readiness Tool (SURT). Result: installed OK
    • Ran sfc /scannow as admin. Result: No integrity violations found.

Please find attached my log files.
I'd be glad to hear from you.

Does anyone have an idea on how to overcome this error? Just tell me in case you need more info. Thank you!

    EDIT
Interesting: Although only IE8 is installed, the text under activate/deactivate windows functions says "IE10".

    EDIT2
Now also uninstalled IE8. Reboot, tried manual IE10 installation. Same error message again: Error 9C59.

The CheckSUR log is normal for a Win7install of IE10.
The earlier CBS.log is effectively error-free.

The more important errors are in the install area -
    Code:

This is not a common failure-mode

I'll have to play and see if I can come up with some kind of test/solution for it - but it's a busy weekend for me (so if anyone else want to put their ideas in, feel free!) so it could be a while before I can get back to you.

    Hello NoelDP,

thank you for these first elements. As noone else replied I'd be glad if you knew a point to start debugging somewhere...

    Kind regards,

    Sorry - I got sidetracked

Let's see if we can find out what information there actually is in the registry about those two errors we've seen.

Please open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following commands

    Code:
    REG LOAD HKLM\COMPONENTS C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS
    REG QUERY HKLM\components\CanonicalData\Catalogs\092015e2654df78baf05f0ac9fc02a241c5960aef9567a339b1890645be93334
    REG QUERY HKLM\components\DerivedData\Components\amd64_microsoft-windows-scripting-jscript_31bf3856ad364e35_10.2.9200.16721_none_00a3e25367a82cb2
    DIR C:\Windows\wisxs\Catalogs\092015e2654df78baf05f0ac9fc02a241c5960aef9567a339b1890645be93334.cat

    .
    post the results...

Here are some instructions to make lifeeasier :)

    1) To open anElevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs,Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run asAdministrator. Accept the UAC prompt.

    2) To run thecommands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on thehighlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at topleft – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the lastcommand, so hit the Enter Key once.

    3) To copy theresults... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit...'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to pasteit into your response.

    Hello NoelDP,

thank you for your help. For your and everyones information: The issue disappeared some time later for an unkown reason. I guess it was some other Windows/IE update that unlocked the situation. However, I have no clue what exactly happened.

Thank you and this thread is closed for me.
