Hmm the CheckSUR log Is the same as the normal one - error-free
Dunno about the DISM log yet - I'll try and dissect it tomorrow.

    Nah
The DISM.log file is actually from March this year - it must be a different one to the one you found earlier, and isn't any use to us here ;(

80071a91 means ERROR_RM_NOT_ACTIVE, which typically means a transaction log is corrupt. Try resetting the logs by running the following from an elevated cmd prompt:

    fsutil resource setautoreset true C:\

Error message when you try to install a Windows update, a hotfix, or a service pack after you perform System Restore in Windows Vista: "0x80071A91"

Thanks for picking up the ball on this one, Troy - I seem to have dropped it!

I tried the command prompt and it said it was completed successfully.
Checked for updates. It shows me the same ones in the picture in the first post; tried installing and it failed again.
I noticed only 1 update downloads, and that's the Cumulative something that I reported would "install" and then pop up on the list again.
The other updates are ready for downloading but they never do.

Try these steps from an elevated cmd prompt.

    fsutil resource stop c:\
    takeown /f c:\$Extend\$RmMetadata\$TxfLog\*
    icacls c:\$Extend\$RmMetadata\$TxfLog\* /grant Administrators:(F)
    del c:\$Extend\$RmMetadata\$TxfLog\*

    cd /d %SystemRoot%\System32\SMI\Store\Machine
    attrib -s -h *
    del *.blf
    del *.regtrans-ms

    Restart the computer

Am I supposed to enter those commands all at once, or am I pressing "Enter" after each one?

Your choice. You can either press enter after each line, or you can copy and paste them all at once, but you will have to press enter once for the last line.
