Windows Update Fail - Error Codes 800F0900 and 80073712

I keep getting Update Failed error with the following codes:

    Code 800F0900 (unknown error)
    Code 80073712 (unknown error)

    The updates are for:
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7 Service Pack 1 for x64-based Systems (KB2879017)
    and
Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2882822)

I had the same issue with .Net Framework updates, but uninstalling with a .Net full removal tool then re-installing did the trick there.

So far I've tried manually installing the updates, running WindowsUpdateDiagnostic, running Tweaking.com Windows Repair (All in One), Microsoft FixIt. None of these have helped and am a loss.

I've included the CBS files as well as the SFCFix.txt to this post. Any suggestions on what to do next? Let me know if you need more info...

    Thanks!

You have a LOT of errors there!
    Here's the SFCFix summary...
    AutoAnalysis::
    Code:
SUMMARY: Some corruptions could not be fixed automatically and others were
unimportant. Seek advice from helper or sysnative.com.
CBS & SFC total detected corruption count: 8

CBS & SFC total unimportant corruption count: 0
CBS & SFC total fixed corruption count: 0
SURT total detected corruption count: 98
SURT total unimportant corruption count: 2
SURT total fixed corruption count: 0
    AutoAnalysis:: directive completed successfully.

I'll post a first-fix protocol later, and we'll see how it goes.

Great, thanks for the help Noel!

I wonder what caused all of these errors? We had a power outage a couple weeks back that cause my computer to act real funny. Lot of programs I had to reinstall because the files were corrupt. Is it possible that was the cause, or is this typically a malware issue?

    Thanks again!

    I've uploaded afile - gbwaa.zip - to my SkyDrive at Noel's SkyDrive

    Please downloadand save it.

Right-click onthe downloaded file, and select Extract all…

Extract to thedefault location - which will create a new folder gbwaain the same place.

Open this folder- there should be two folders inside it (Manifests, and Packages)

Copy the content of the Packages folder to thefolder

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages

Andthe content of the manifestsfolder (.manifest files) into this folder:

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests

Nowrun the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

Postthe new CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log file.

With luck we'll be down to only three actual errors, although it'll show at least 6

It looks to me as if we may have to do some further cleanup work after we get both SFC/CBS and CheckSUR sorted out - the type of damage here is I would guess from your power problems - there is mostly file corruption present, and if the power problems happened during a time when the system was updating, then it could leave some weird stuff lying around.

Thanks so much! I got as far as C:\Windows\Temp, but the rest of the folders don't exist. Should I create them and just copy/past the contents?

I'm getting frequent BSOD, which never occurred in the past so might also have something to do with the folders not being there.

Are you using any form of registry cleaner/optimizer? - or some kind of speed-up/cleanup app?
CCleaner has an option to delete the temp files on every restart, which needs to be switched off (always, would be my suggestion, but..)

Yeah, I do... could be CCleaner or Kingsoft PC Doctor. Didn't realize it had those settings.

I'll create the folders, copy your files there and then rerun the CheckSUR tool

I tried to paste the new log files, but they're too many characters for the forum to accept. See attached.

    Making progress?

Edit: I ran the System Update Readiness Tool. Was that what I should have done? I also have SFCFixVersion2, but did not run.

    Yep - a lot of progress :)
Just the two manifests from VC++8 left, and the payload files... and one odd one which I haven't a clue about (yet!)

back later with an attempt to clear up the payload files :)
