    Good :) there's only one remaining error - and the problem with the MPSSVC.

    The remaining error is actually the Windows Action Center.

    I've uploaded a file - mpkfixac.zip - to my SkyDrive at Noel's SkyDrive

    Please download and save it to your desktop.

    Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...

    Save it to the default location

    This should create a file mpkfixac.reg



    right-click on the file, and select Merge

    Accept the warnings, - you should then get a 'Success' message.

    Close all windows, and reboot.

    Now run the FarBar Service Scanner again, and post the results.

    Great - that log is now clean. :)

    Let's try Windows Update now - you'll probably need to do a manual scan for updates first.... does that do anything?
    If it works, then attempt to install only the oldest update you can find - preferably the oldest Security Update for Windows ( NOT a .NET one, please!)

    what happens? what exact error message do you get, if any?

    There are over 500Mb of updates including a few .NET ones too. I installed the oldest Security update and it created a restore point and installed the update perfectly. No error messages at all.

    YAY!!
    so far so good :)
    Now we nurse it along a bit - just install the other Security Updates for Windows, and reboot again, before attempting any of the more 'rugged' updates
    leave the .NET ones until last.


    You may have one or two refuse to install initially - just add them to the next round, and try again.
    See how many you end up getting in :)

    I've left my pc doing 49 Security Updates. So far it has downloaded. Over 80% of them. I'll leave it on overnight and see where we are in the morning.
