Without knowing what other updates (the ones not shown) I looked at the ones shown in post# 54
I'll stop offering suggestions and let you work through the issues.

Slarty, thanks for the advice but Noel has been going through all the problems that I have had from the start and I think I should stick with his method of ensuring my system is clean/updated as he has spent a lot of time on this issue. Thansk for your advice anyways.

    Noel

I'm down to four updates to be installed but cannot manage to have the updates installed without the "Failure configuring Windows updates. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer"

    Important Updates:

    Installation date: ‎26/‎10/‎2013 17:38
    Installation status: Failed
    Error details: Code 800F0826
    Update type: Important

    Optional Updates:

Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7
    Installation date: ‎26/‎10/‎2013 18:21
    Installation status: Failed
    Error details: Code C0000005
    Update type: Optional

    Update for Windows 7 (KB2592687)
    Installation date: ‎26/‎10/‎2013 18:24
    Installation status: Failed
    Error details: Code 8007007E
    Update type: Optional

Update for Kernel-Mode Driver Framework version 1.11 for Windows 7 (KB2685811)
    Installation date: ‎25/‎10/‎2013 23:36

Once these are installed, I will have a fully updated PC

It was a reply to Noel, an observation, not advice. Sorry that wasn't clear.

Noel, the Platform update has caused issues in the past. What about uninstalling it?

Maypack, How did you go from 31 updates down to 4?
Post 54: (There are 27 files similar to this one, all with the same error code)
Post 58: Yes they give the exact same error codes.
Post 62: I'm down to four updates to be installed.....
There are 2 MS fixits related to WU and firewall - ask Noel if you should run them:
Diagnose and fix Windows Firewall service problems automatically
Error 0x80070424 ocurs when you use Windows Update, Microsoft Update, or Windows Firewall

    Now, I'm really done.

Security Update for Windows 7 (KB2864202)
is the obvious one to target - since theory says that it should install off the standalone, and it's a Security update as well.

Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7
Forget that until everything else is in (also, the error appears to be an 'access denied' one and these can be fun to solve) :)

    Update for Windows 7 (KB2592687)
This is the oldest outstanding update - and therefore goes higher in the list

Update for Kernel-Mode Driver Framework version 1.11 for Windows 7 (KB2685811)
This is an essential update - but I have vague memories of it having been superseded, although I can't confirm that via Google.

I assume that you've attempted to install all of these from the standalones?

The 8007007E error is defined as 'Module not found' - which I would have thought was only likely to happen when installing from WU, but could also occur if you had a corrupted download.

Please post a new windowsupdate.log file, and we'll take a look.

    With regards to:
Update for Kernel-Mode Driver Framework version 1.11 for Windows 7 (KB2685811)

I have looked through my installed list and found that the following was sucessfully installed:

Update for User-Mode Driver Framework version 1.11 for Windows 7 (KB2685813)

Could this be the superseded update you mention?

I have attempted to install Update for Windows 7 (KB2592687) from the Standalone and will retry Update for Kernel-Mode Driver Framework version 1.11 for Windows 7 (KB2685811).

As for the others there doesnt appear to be a standalone installation.

Also Ive attached windowsupdate.log as requested.

I see I didn't get the error doe translation right, quite...

There are also number of errors which indicate problems reading manifest files...
Windows Update error 8024000B may apply.

Download Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2864202) from Official Microsoft Download Center applies for KB2864202

The Kernel-Mode and User-Mode driver frameworks are different beasts altogether :) - but they do tend to get updated together. Checking MSDN, there is a later version of the driver frameworks, but it's only for Windows 8.1, and so irrelevant here.

There have been a number of reboots completed throughout the evening.

I did as requested for the Windows Update error 8024000B but there appeared to be nothing different.

When i downloaded KB2864202 direct from Microsoft and ran it as a standalone, I received a message saying "The update is not applicable to my computer"!!

Is there nayting we can do to rectify these 4 updates?

We can always do something :)
Just now, I think a repeat run of SFC and CheckSUR would be a good idea - this will tell us two things..
    1) whether the system protection properly replaced the file you renamed
    2) whether there are any manifest problems in the winsxs folder
which will hopefully tell us whether we need to make some more repairs before attempting minor surgery :)

It may be me being tired or maybe even a little thick but could you run through the procedures for running SFC and Checksur?
