Windows update error 80070002 and System restore error (Both)

    Windows update error 80070002 and System restore error (Both)


    Hello guys,
    I have tried everything I found online and failed. I don't wanna do a clean install. I have attached the CheckSur.log. Please help.

    I was getting that same error - and saying "cannot search for updates".

    I tried the Fixit tool and command prompts - suggested by Microsoft - nothing worked.

    I finally called Microsoft - 1 - 800 - Microsoft and they did a remote on my comp and the problem is solved, at least for now.

    There is no charge for this service.

    As for System Restore, make sure you have set a Restore Point.


    Go to Start and type system restore.
    Go to " Create a restore point".

    See if your C drive says "on" and if not click Configure.

    Hi PSCO2007,

    Thx for reply. Funny thing happened somehow i managed to get system restore work and went back to last week's restore point when I am sure everything was fine..but even after the successful restore windows update gives error 80070002.

    In "Update History" does that update show?

    Yes, only the last one "Hotfix for Windows (KB947821)" which I manually downloaded and installed just before system restore.

    Give Microsoft a call tomorrow and let them do a remote.

    I tried to get live help, but I cant get into there. I have entered my activation code correctly

    But I get this following message again and again when I click continue :
    This Product ID indicates that there will be a charge for this Microsoft support.

    Just call them at 1-800-microsoft - it works.

    Ok, thanks. I will call them; it's just awfully expensive to call from Bangladesh to US.

    Go to Microsoft Website and see if there is an int'l phone # you can call for free.
