    Windows Update : error 80080005

    Hi,

For months, I've an issue with Windows Update on Seven x64.
I've this result : "An error occurred while checking for new updates for your computer.", error 80080005.

Maybe you could help me, please?

I've tried things such as :
    - MS FixIt (which, of course, found that there were no problem)
    - sfc /scannow
    - deleting SoftwareDistribution folder and net stop/start wuauserv
    - resetting Windows Update
    - ... trying others fixes
    Nothing worked.

But... is that know issue currently fixed by a patch...
Or is there a way to really fix it today.

    Thanks a lot!

    You're right, NoelDP :)

But I think I know where is the problem. I have a Samsung laptop. So there are many Samsung services loading at startup...

I performed a clean boot, killed all remaining useless programs, and it immediately worked.

So, for those who have that kind of problems... applications added by the manufacturer can block the update processes.

I suspect that it's your security software getting in the way.

    What Anti-Virus is currently installed?
What other AV's have EVER been installed?

I have made a kind of clean install (Clonezilla without any security software).
To solve the issue, I simply performed a clean boot and killed these remaining Samsung programs:
    - CommonAgent
    - ModeShift
    - SamoyedAgent
    - SmartSettings
    Now, all is OK. Thanks.

Unless you properly removed the pre-installed AV, there will still be parts of it in your clone - and they will interfere unpredictably with your install.

Yes, the pre-installed AV can be a source of bugs.
But it seems that it was not the case for me.

    What makes you think that?

The first action I've done after running the first time my computer was to remove the security programs (after doing the first clone). It seems that nothing related to AV stayed on my computer. I also cleaned all (CCleaner+winapp2.ini, Glary Utilities and some deletions with Linux): useless files, registry errors. But, actually, this is just a detail. Maybe some useless files are still here.
The only thing I'm sure is that Samsung added some more or less useful applications that use administration rights (ModeShift is good, all the rest is...). And simply by only killing them, Windows Update worked immediately fine (I don't try to know which of them is "the" bad software that interferes with Windows Update). I've tried it four times: with that programs, there is always a problem; without, it's always OK. These software also prevent me from using a simple account instead of an administrator one (I tried to make them as services -sc command-, it doesn't work and I don't know why).

In that case, all bets are off as to what you actually did to your machine - but you almost certainly did not get rid of the dregs of the pre-installed AV.
You should run the dedicated removal tool for the AV, and then reboot, and run NETSH WINSOCK RESET and reboot again.
