    Can't downgrade or update Internet Explorer, error 80070643

    Hello guys,
    a couple of weeks ago my father asked me to update his PC, running Windows 7 Professional 32bit.

    I ran Windows Update, everything went smooth despite for one update, Internet Explorer 9 -> 10 upgrade.
    Installation process failed on first run, but then, when it was automatically re-executed on reboot, it completed successfully (at least I thought so, sigh).

    I immediately noticed that IE10 was installed in the English version only, while my father used Italian IE9;
    not a big deal, let's try to install the Italian one ...
    installation process goes to 30%, then pc reboots ... on reboot it goes to up 99%, but suddenly it says that it's impossible to apply the update and everything is reverted back!
    Everything I got it's error 80070643.

    The same thing happens when I try to uninstall IE10 by hand (I tried all methods known, Control Panel, Command Prompt etc.), but it's always goes up to 99% and then reverts the changes.

    Yesterday, surprise: Windows Update was able to install IE11, but it's the English version, of course; when I try to install the Italian one or go back to IE10 I got the same error of previous 9->10 transition.

    How can I fix that error to be able to install the IE version I want?

    Attachment 293311
    Thanks in advance.

    I can't recall seeing these error type before. The CheckSUR results show no signs of either IE 10 or IE11 being present, and the above error appears to be from an attempted install of IE10.
    To be honest, I'm not sure where to begin yet - perhaps a look at the windowsupdate.log file will help.
    Please upload your C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log file, and we'll see what it has to say.

    Hello and thanks for your reply, I'm attaching my windowsupdate.log file

    Please note that I tried to update a few minutes ago and one of the updates failed,
    KB2864202 with a 8007043B error, so I put it into hidden state;
    I don't know if this can be related or caused by my Internet Explorer broken environment.

    Apparently, Windows detected 30 updates on 11/11 just before the error times above - and 32 afterwards!

    this changed to 29, on 12/11 - then 39,

    MSRT installed and ran... and another 4 updates

    You update failure appears to have been from this....

    I suspect that this is related to the following problems...

    I see that at the same time that you hid KB2864202, KB2862330 was also hidden?
    So this brings the number of Updates remaining to 31 :)

    I need to check and see what I can find out about this error type - back later.

    Yeah, sorry for the confusion, yesterday I tried to fix it once again, but I think it's better if I wait for your help

    Current situation:
    I hid KB2864202 (it was failing with 8007043B error), KB2862330 seems to depend on it,
    so I hid that one, too.
    IE 11 (English version) is currently installed, but I can't downgrade or change language, it's always failing with a 8007043 error.

    I'm waiting for your investigation, thanks in advance

    Noel, just a quick update; I found something that could be related to my problem here:
    Failure configuring Windows update KB2685811 - Microsoft Community

    They talk about WMI corruption and they suggest to run
    "mofcomp.exe wmi.mof"

    Well, I tried it and, guess what, I'm getting a 8007043B error, argh!!!

    I can usually puzzle strange languages out with the help of Google - Italian I can always ask my sister, since she's lived in Sardinia for 20+years :)

    I don't think you were a million miles off-target with that idea, but there's not much info on this error anywhere that I've found, and even less in terms of a confirmed fix

    Yeeeees, I fixed it!!!
    I googled for "WMI repair" and they were suggesting to run
    "winmgmt /verifyrepository" to check if the repository was coherent (and it was, luckily) and then to run
    "winmgmt /resetrepository" to try to fix it.
    Well, I was a bit scared because I had just a vague idea of what that command could do, but I run it and ...
    it fixed everything!!!

    After a reboot "mofcomp.exe wmi.mof" was working flawless, so I tried to run Windows Update;
    everything was installed without errors and even IE was put in a working state, I could downgrade/upgrade it
    without issues, wow!

    The funny thing is that I spent two weeks and bothered you for a few days when the solution was a one-line command that run in a few seconds, lol, but it was the right reward for me being so brave to run it

    Just a final question: I have just one update left, KB2862330, one of the two that were hid (KB2864202 was installed successfully), but it doesn't have the, err, how it's called, "check" near it ... what does it mean? Windows Update doesn't want that I install it?

    Thanks once again for your help, without you pointing out those lines in the logs I'd be here still trying to understand what to do!
