I had 10 updates for my Windows 8 machine and they all installed in one go without problem. Not sure about my Windows 7 machine as earlier we had a power cut and hubby turned the machine back on when power was resumed, I wouldn't have bothered as I'm not going down there, but he's just been to turn it off and he said there were 15 updates that it was doing.
I'll find out tomorrow what's happened not going to look at it now, trying to help a friend out who's having problems, it's Figgs if you're interested Noel.

IE11 is an optional update for the moment to reduce the load on tge servers. Updates for it aren't necessary as they would have been included in the installation if you were connected at the time
No it did not come through as an update it was for the new installation of IE 11. It was in addition to the mid November list of updates.

Switched on this morning and everything OK, there were another 4 updates to do one of which was IE11. Did the first 2 rebooted then did the others which were 1 for MSE and the IE11 one, another reboot and everything's working fine and no problems. :)

All basic Windows updates installed successfully on both machines, quite speedy as usual. The MSE update was then installed ok on both machines. Just the Office updates to install on my work machine which I may leave until next Wednesday when I finish work for next week (being semi-retired I only work 3 days). IE11 remains hidden on both machines as I have no need for it.

    Definitely

First off, I was really ticked off that I noticed last night when I shut down my PC that there were updates being installed. I got the message not to turn off the computer, blah, blah, blah.

When I powered up my PC today, it booted up, then it rebooted on it's own just after it had past the BIOS boot screen. I am not sure where in the process it rebooted. However, there was no message saying my PC didn't shut down properly.

Additionally, I don't why this happens, but randomly Windows updates automatically in the background despite my settings/preferences of "check for updates, but let me choose to download them". It overrides and changes the settings on it's own.

I have noticed this happens every now and then. Does any one know why?

IE11 was offered on this x64 PC via Windows Update today and I installed it for a test drive - no problems installing.
To me it seems fast for opening new pages, but slow for starting up.
My primary browser is Pale Moon (Firefox)...so my experience with IE is limited, and with PM/FF I can choose to "not load pages until selected"...
With IE every tab gets re-loaded on startup - I use "Start with tabs from last session".

I SOMETIMES get this error with IE11.
    Attachment 293700
So far I only get this error on SOME SF Thread pages, sometimes...
Playing with enabling/disabling add-ons, I think it's the Flash 11.9.900.152 Add-On causing the issue with SF.

    IE11 and Office Updates

    Hi all
I've read the thread all the way through. Each post seems to have a slightly different flavour on what looks like a common problem with this mid-Nov 2013 set up updates.

I received the updates on the 14th Nov. Windows automatically ticked the 4 updates to Office and one more - the bundled up updates to IE10. Although it was presented to me, I chose not to take IE11 at that point.

Normally Windows updates happen without a hitch. However, this time none of the 5 auto-ticked updates worked. They started by appearing to install and then had to 'revert' back when Windows found some problem. Of course, on trying to close down, it did exactly the same again, duff-install, revert, reboot (roughly); but didn't close down - so round we go again and again and again Eventually I just hit the reboot button, rebooted in safe mode, closed and went to bed. Clearly there is a problem.

By taking IE11, which has installed and run without a hitch, at least I've got rid of the bundled updates to IE10 as its not needed any more, but the 4 Office updates still will not install. Screenshot of the updates hopefully attached

Its going to be the reboot button at closedown tonight unless a some revised updates has appeared by then.

2 machines with the identical symptoms

I would try installing the problem updates one at a time to try and determine which updates(s) might work, and which cause problems.
