Windows update error 80071A91 also 80070643

    Windows update error 80071A91 also 80070643


    Toshiba Satellite L755-5350
    Win7 Home Premium SP1
    4 GB RAM
    500 GB Hard drive Toshiba MK5065GS ~390GB free space

    This is a clients laptop who first noticed that Windows updates on shutdown would fail and restart, revert, restart. This happened on every shutdown after that.

    Started with this -
    No updates can be installed shows error 80070643
    Re-installed with Toshiba System Recovery but same error - 80070643. Re-imaged system back to configuration was as I first found it.

    Ran SFC /scannow - no errors reported
    Ran SURT (Windows6.1-KB947821-v31-x64)

    Reboot

    1. Starts with Check for updates for your computer, checks shows 21 available, selected early one dated 10/8/13 KB2884256)

    2.Update fails Error now is 80071A91

    CBS log attached

    Have run Malwarebytes with no problems found,

    Reboot with a checkdisk due to a posting I read on this forum today had tried this (Win 7 updates failed - 80070643 and 80071A91). Looks like it has helped. This wasn't on my radar. Next time WUpdates throws a hissy fit I'll do that. Because it's free and takes one variable off the table.

    After a manual update check only 11 were available and chosen to update. Approx 10 updates were in pending stage at the end of the updating. All 10 resolved after reboot.

    Update KB2862330 failed with "Error details: Code 8020000E"

    Installed 2 updates KB2862330 and KB2888505

    Again Update KB2862330 failed with "Error details: Code 8020000E"

    Rebooted with no Windows errors. one update avail.

    Again Update KB2862330 failed with "Error details: Code 8020000E"

    Hat tip to Golden for his suggestion to manually apply the KB286330 Update. Applied the Win7x6x file here (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl....aspx?id=40579).

    Big Hat Tip to DayGloScooter for reminding me about CHKDSK which I think is what corrected the update errors.

    No errors upon reboot!!! Manually checked for important updates, none available. Set updates to install automatically and going to call it a day.
