    A way to change the

    Hi Forum.

I am currently having Issues with Activation on Windows 7 Professional. It says it cant connect to the KMS host and I was wondering I there was some chance of not making it activate via a KMS host and just activate like what Windows XP did and that was activating to the Microsoft server. I am sick and tied of having a box come up saying to activate everytime I start up the PC . I am not going to get a new copy of Windows because its a waste of money .

For which version and edition of Windows do you have a license? (Where did you get it from?)

The installed Windows is on a machine built in 2003 - so the License should be wither an Upgrade, or a Full Retail, (or an OEM System Builder). - which means that you will have the Product Key in the box in which Windows came.

You need to change the Product Key to the one on the POA label in the Windows case using the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System properties page.

You may need to activate by phone.

    Okay, first of all...

    1. The Windows Installation disc is a Full Retail but acts like its designed to be installed on computers that are under an Organisation.

    2. What is a POA label?

    3. I have already tried activating by phone. It gave me a extra string of numbers and there for I cannot do that option.

4.Whenever I try to activate It comes up with a error code and either says period timeout or The Label, Syntax or something cannot be found or is corrupt.

And I am really sorry if I forgot something, I just signed up yesterday.

    Thanks

Well, its funny you should say this.

I was at school finishing of some work and I went to go and save it in the network so I could access the file from any computer. I accidentally went into the wrong network server, and I realised that was where they kept all the applications for the macs at school. So I decided to go "exploring" and found this Windows 7 Professional x86 Image. I was amazed, so the next day I took a 32GB USB to school and I coppied the image, took it home burnt the image onto disc and it worked. I installed it on the PC and It was running like a dream until I couldn't activate . I finnaly had a PC that was working faster then what it was like with XP on it. Oh well might have to save up on that Windows 7 Home edition .

    Thanks

That is what I would call 'an unconfirmed source'. If you were in the US, you could get a Home Premium for $79. Maybe in the interim you could use a Linux distro. E.g. Mint Mate is a beautiful system. Download this PDF from my skydrive and you will see.

This copy of windows is showing all the signs that it is covered by a volume licence.

If you have purchased this copy legitimately from a commercial source, you should contact microsoft and inform them of all details of your purchase including a valid receipt. If you have been scammed by a commercial seller it is likely that Microsoft will supply a valid copy and key, and take proceedings against the seller.

If you have obtained this copy legitimately through your employer, you should contact your employer's IT department and they will arrange activation.

If you have obtained this copy via any other source then you will need to purchase another copy of the software.

    Well

I'm just gonna have to save up and get Home Premium.

When you mean Interim you mean Internet or is Interim a website of some-sought.

I have heard of Linux Mint I have some distros at home including Arch Linux and Ubuntu Beta (which I can just update) And to come to think of it I did install the beta version of Ubuntu on the HP but found it really slow after a while and there were alot of updates (about 102 to be precise).

    Oh well
    Thanks Forum.

With 'interim' I mean in the meantime until you can buy a Windows 7 license.

I would not use Ubuntu. The new versions suck. You can download the newest Mint Mate version from here:

Linux Mint 16 "Petra" - MATE RC (32-bit) - Linux Mint

I gave you the 32bit version assuming that you have an older PC. But there is also a 64bit version.

Here is a picture of how the desktop and start menu of my Mint Mate looks.
