    Noel..
    I copy/paste: REN c;\Windows\System32\Catroot2 Catroot2Old
error message: "A duplicate filename exists, or the file cannot be found"

If I leave out the REN...the earlier error message as before.

when I cloned this drive I did a complete chkdsk...5 stages.
I did not do this with the 1TB Seagate.
I never received any "Genuine" error messages. I'm still using the original Seagate 750GB hdrive...3-4 years old HP Pavilion. Virus . Malware?...I ran MalwareBytes severaltimes and Microsoft Security Essentials and constantly updated. AI use SyncToy for my tons of documents. I found out about SyncToy here at 7s forum. I like it...easy & quick setup and run...just to change the subject.

I have the paid version of UASEUS Workstation...I should reinstall it and do the old hdrive a again.
I do have other backup quotations after this regarding clones & images...but all that can wait. I just appreciate your help.

In that case either the target exists, or the folder doesn't.
Please run the following commands and post the results.

    DIR C:\Windows\System32\Catroot2
    RD C:\Windows\System32Catroot2old /S

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)
    1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
    2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
    3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

You obviously have some corruption that is preventing the rebuild of the Catroot2 folder.
Your best bet is going to be a repair install...

Arepair install doesn't usually affect installed programs or data but will affect some settings. Read the tutorial :)

    Noel...
I tried to find the correct download as given on the repair tutorial...did not understand or find Windows 7 USB - DVD Download Tool listed. Many choices many of which I did not understand. I followed the link to Microsoft TechNet...signed in. Maybe the names have changed since after the tutorial. I'd like to try this Repair I just don't know what to download.
I suppose I could still use your help...strum101

You have Windows 7 Home Premium x64 - so first you need to download the ISO for that from..
    http://msft.digitalrivercontent.net/win/X17-58997.iso - assuming it's in English :)

(make a note - I'll be modifying the link after we know you've got the download OK, to keep within the forum rules)

You have a Pavilion p6204y - which presumably has a DVD writer in it?
If so, you don't need the USB tool - simply burn the downloaded ISO file to a writable DVD using the Windows Disk Image Burning tool - right-click on the downloaded file and select that, and follow the instructions.

Then disable your anti-virus and disconnect from the internet, and insert the DVD with Windows already running - shoul can pick up the instructions from then on with the tutorial, with any lu.ck
