    I will let you know...
I also tried to download the correct Windows 7 sp1 iso...seemed to be blocked.
    I just don't understand Microsoft...never did!
I hope not to be a bother too much longer.
All this is new to me and Microsoft has always been my aggravation (lack of understanding)
thanks again for your help after this first download I will leave another note...strum101

    Noel...
It took 5 hours to download. I was not at the computer. I couldn't find the X17-58997.iso.
That was very discouraging. I was to tell you when it finished (at 5pm) for your next step download.
I just can't go thru that again another 5 hours. Doesn't Microsoft have a DVD ready without costing an arm and a leg? What happened when it finished my HP program Power2Go (burner) opened automatically to make the iso. Cancelled it in order to get the next required download you mentioned. I hope its still on my computer. I'd really hate to go thru another 5 hours.
I could use your suggestions as how to go about this if I lost the 'completed successfully' download.

Install Windows Repair (All In One)
It can repair all kinds of windows update problems.

You can always do a repair install if nothing else fixes the problem

    Anyone...

I did more than one clone. The same thing happens each time. Windows update cannot be started.
I tried Automatic Trouble Shooter twice. It failed. I really don't know what to do next.
I thought to try and download the Windows update Agent...haven't got that far. Frustration got the best of me.
I am using HP Pavilion...Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. The clone is the same size as the original hard drive...750GB.
The original hard drive is a Seagate 750GB...replacement drive is Western Digital 750GB. I also tried it with a 1TB Seagate...same thing happened. I wonder about this free Macrium now regarding clones.

I've come to the end of what to do. I still have the old Seagate 750GB hdrive if needed.
I will appreciate anyone's help with the solving of this problem. I am totally frustrating.
I hope not to discover more unseen or unknown problems later.

I did SFC file checker: "Windows Resource found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.
    Refer to CBS.LOG"
Should I attach this file? Let me know.

I tried to download Windows Update Agent, but didn't know which one...several to choose from. I thought of the Auto & Manual update method. I like the ability to choose if the Automatic Update didn't work. I really don't know anything about this...not much knowledge with the inner workings of the computer.
I think I got this message while trying to download Windows Update Agent- "error: WU_E_SELFUPDATE_REQUIRED" So I don't know what to download r download first.

Ask me any questions for further insights...
With much appreciation for your help...sincerely...strum101
A clone is just an EXACT copy.... this cannot cause this kind of problems. Did you:
    • Attach the cloned disk to another system?
    • Sure the original disk didn't have the problems you're talking about?

I know. But how can a disk clone (I assume from a system without problems) cause these problems???

Very easily, if the process wasn't verified properly - all it takes is a few bitflips.

He should verify on backup and on restore. Very unlikely it fails many times on a row. And if it fails.... is it the read from harddrive that fails, or the write to external drive? In case of hardware errors.... a repair install won't fix that.

    Noel...
I got the Win 7 repair iso on DVD.
I solved a problem of trying continue the download ending up download time 1,2,3 days.
The 2 useless files...one of them had 'part' unfinished download deleted them
Use ccleaner to clean registry. I found the word 'part' there and cleaned it up.
Started the download for 5-6 hours successfully then to DVD. Try out tomorrow morning.
I lost the other download cause I was in too much a hurry and it was only set to 'open' not to down to computer or 'save' file.
If you have any suggestions before I start?
The tutorial has so many screen shots I suppose it is best to print it out...my PDF copy.
That Major Geeks I download I will wait on that..
    in appreciation,,,strum101
