    Phew! - much better :)

    I'd still like to get rid of the superfluous Administrators entries, but that can wait for a while.

    I have a nasty feeling that we're going to have to redo the permissions on all the thousands of folders and files under the winsxs folder, as well - and it may be the quickest way to deal with the problem long-term.

    Each of these commands is likely to take some considerable time to complete, so be patient - just run the first two to begin with and see how it goes...

    TAKEOWN /F C:\Windows\winsxs\*.* /A /R
    ICACLS C:\Windows\winsxs\*.* /remove Everybody /T

    Assuming they complete OK, then continue with the following ones, one at a time.
    If they have problems, try running them again while in Safe Mode.

    ICACLS C:\Windows\winsxs\*.* /remove jhg /T
    ICACLS C:\Windows\winsxs\*.* /remove Users /T
    ICACLS C:\Windows\winsxs\*.* /remove "NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM" /T

    That was quick! :)

    I screwed up the 'Everyone' entries, by calling the account 'Everybody' instead

    Please run this command

    ICACLS C:\Windows\winsxs\*.* /remove Everyone /T

    then run the full fix in post #12 again (although you shouldn't need to extract the files to the C:\ drive again, unless you've deleted them since), and post the new SFC scan

    ...oh - before I forget... the reason for the missing media files is so-called cleanup software from either IOBit, Uniblue, Wise or other scareware. If you have any such installed, please uninstall it and claim a refund.
