    Error 0x8004xFE21. IRST drivers dont work


    I have the windows genuine error that many other people have but the fixes suggested don't seem to work on my system. I cloned my SATA drive to a solid state drive could this be the reason?

    When I install IATA_ENU.exe it says the system does meet the minimum requirements.

    Since the IRST drivers 'don't work' we can assume one of two things is the case.

    1) your machine is too old for the set of drivers you attempted to install - note that machines of your age ay require the earlier Matrix drivers instead (link later)
    2) Your machine doesn't have an Intel chipset. (Yours does)

    Here's the link for the latest set of Matrix Drivers, which should install on your machine...

    Having said that, ASUS have a more recent set (possibly - according to the file date, at least)

    Both of the drivers did install and the new MGA report is below.

    When installing the drivers from Intel, it said that the system has a newer version but I went ahead and replaced them anyway.

    OK, so the problem is almost certainly not the drivers, but the other known cause of this error-set - a corrupted Catroot2 folder.


    Please run the following commands in an Elevated Command Prompt

    NET STOP CRYPTSVC
    REN C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CATROOT2 CATROOT2OLD
    NET START CRYPTSVC


    once complete, leave the system alone for at least an hour to rebuild the database, then reboot, and run another MGADiag report and post the results.

    Note that this may delete your Update History - but all updates will remain installed, and can be viewed in the Installed Updates listing.

    I completed the commands.

    I can see the problem still exists. When I ran the last command it said in seconds that the service had started successfully. The 'catroot2' folder contains two folders that are empty and a text file that says there is JET error 583 with various services. The 'catroot' folder contains the same two folders however one of them contains all the windows updates.

    Please don't touch the Catroot folder - that is essential!

    The data is obviously not being rebuilt properly in the Catroot2 folder - up until now, the only solution we have found for this is a repair install.

    Having said that, I'm game to try and isolate the cause if you feel up to the challenge.
    It may take a while - and we may still end up having to do the repair install.

    The links are for downloads from the Digital River servers run for MS, so are about as safe as you can get :)

    I'm fairly certain that the problem lies within the WMI/WBEM systems, but I've never managed to find the root cause (hopefully I'll be able to get my hands on an affected system sometime and do some real delving!)

    Since the Coatroot2 folder isn't being rebuilt, lets check out a few things and see what we can find....

    Open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following commands..

    OK - Here we go...

    Open an Elevated Command Prompt
    type the following command

    net stop winmgmt

    (hit the Y key and enter, to respond to the confirmation - repeat the command if you get an error)
    now you can copy and paste the rest -

    sc config winmgmt start= disabled
    cd %windir%\system32\wbem
    for /f %s in ('dir /b *.dll') do regsvr32 /s %s
    for /f %s in ('dir /b *.mof') do mofcomp %s
    wmiprvse /regserver
    sc config winmgmt start= auto

    WAIT for it to finish - it could be a couple of minutes

    Now reboot.

    Run another MGADiag report and post the results.

    Here are some instructions to make life easier :)
    1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
    2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
    3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.
