What is MSDN key? To activate a windows

    Hi
Can someone tell me what is msdn key.? How to use it? When will it work?

I am working as internee in a software firm and they have alot of systems. Recently I was tasked to activate a windows 7 enterprise system using msdn key. Where can I get it?

I have tried to Google it and found some keys on Microsoft site tried it but it is not working.

So can someone demystify what is m msdn key?

Preet more thing to l mention as i join any system to domain and reboot it it's windows gets automatically gets activated but it's not working for this particular system. So i was instructed to use msdn key but entering that key I get error.

You need to check with your System Admin - they should have all Company Keys (such as any MSDN ones) under secure lock and key (pun wasn't really intended, honest! :)) as if they escape into the wild it could cost the company a small fortune to get new ones.

MSDN is the Microsoft Developer Network - which I assume your company is a volume subscriber to. See here for details of MSDN ...
MSDN ? the Microsoft Developer Network

What you appear to be referring to in your last paragraph is KMS Volume Activation - see here for details...

Basically, if you are indeed using KMS Activation you need your own KMS Server, and AT LEAST 25 clients for it to be able to work. Until the client number is sufficiently high (or if it drops back below 25 again) it will rejects activation requests. Note that most clients need to refresh at the server every week r so, and re-activate on the server every 180 days max.

    Hope that helps a bit?
