In that case, download the offline installer from here -
Download Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932) from Official Microsoft Download Centre - you want the windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe version.

    save it, and run it.

Just ran the manual installer and I got this message (Screenshot) attached. I have installed the system readiness installer about 4 times already without any joy!

Hmmm I've never seen that window before!
I'm on the phone at the moment so don't have my data to hand.
    Back later!

... at least it gives us an error message to work with (File Not Found) - I just wish it'd be specific!

Please upload the C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log file - that may have some decent info for us.

Interesting - the indication is simply that the download was incomplete - which is not normally a problem that would incite a CheckSUR scan.

Please boot to a Clean Boot and attempt the installation from there....

    Right...

Put the laptop in clean boot mode. Ran the manual update installer (I'm guessing you meant that and not the system update readiness file) and got the same error message.
