    Windows 7 64 bit SP1 Problem

    Hi guys,

This problem has been racking my brain since Christmas day

I was basically given a laptop from a friend to try and sort out.

I am unable to successfully install SP1 64 bit.

    I have tried numerous things...

Disable AVG and Windows Firewall, Installed the System Update Readiness Tool, use the scan now facility (no problems found), install the manual update in safe mode and in clean boot mode respectively, reset windows updates.

I have just tried to run the update and I got this error code. 8024200D.

See attached my CBS logs as requested.

Hopefully someone can shed some light on this......

    Cheers in advance
    CJ

Yes, I've tried that. I'm unable to attach the logs as it's 21mb zipped

Reduce the size of the CBS.log with this command:

    findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log

Then right click on the cmd window > "Select All" and right click again on the highlighted area. Then it is on the clipboard and you can paste it here.

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data - if the file is too large, either split it, or delete the older CBSPersist files, and try again

Ok, I have removed the older Persist files and zipped the latest one separately.

There's some interesting errors in the CBS.log background..

I think the problem is that the SoftwareDistribution folder is corrupted, the system is unable to update to the latest Update Agent as a result.
Hopefully, the solution will be to rename the folder, which will force Windows to rebuild it and re-download the update.

    Open an Elevated Command Prompt
    Run the following commands

    NET STOP WUAUSERV
    REN C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution SDOLD
    NET START WUAUSERV

    wait 15 minutes, and reboot
then wait 10 minutes, and open Windows Updates, and run a Check for Updates.

Install only the oldest update found - and reboot once installed
then go back to Windows updates and install the others.

I had already renamed the Software Distribution folder twice in the past but I did it again. (Followed the steps)

I have just run the Windows Update and the only update listed is SP1. Do I try to install that?
