Updates installing even though turned off

    Hi there guys, simple case:

In control panel I've disabled all updates, yet from time to time I get a message that windows will install the updates upon shutdown. I go back to control panel and updates are magically turned on. I turn them off again, I click apply, close the window, open it again to doublecheck if they are off ( they are) and go on doing some other things. And then after some time they are turned on again.

Initially I thought it was some kind of virus, I had to format my PC anyway so I did and it's all the sime. I've scanned for all malware/viruses etc, yet I SIMPLY CANT TURN THE UPDATES OFF .

    Any solutions?

something you have installed is doing it. the most common culprits are virus scanners, they overide it as they require windows to be fully up to date to be fully effective.
    but it could be anything.

this is one of those things people over look when they just click the "ive read and understand the terms of use" tick box. its normally stated in there lol

Thanks badger:) Although I virtually haven't installed a thing since it's fresh after a format. I've only installed the AVG antivirus and if u are right then it must be it, I'll try to mess around with it or uninstall it I guess. I'm still open to other ideas if anyone has got a clue about this issue :)

gamon12 are you saying you never want Windows 7 to update or you only want to update it manually?

There are some critical security updates that will be pushed out regardless of your settings. That might be it.
These are only major critical ones.

More accurately, they are almost only those related to the Windows Update process itself.

Gamon - please check your Update History - which update is being installed?
