4. I think the rest of the KB article (Known issues, resolution) applies to the original release and this (Jan 14) release addresses those issues. Just a guess.

1) I avoid Softpedia for anything - mostly because it's too awkward to avoid clicking on the wrong download button.

2) NO - MS NEVER recycle KB numbers, as the number is issued at the start of a project, not the end (which is why there are so many gaps in the published numbers), and that number stays with all internal systems forever.
If for any reason (such as happened here) a patch has to be reworked, then it will be re-issued as version .x under the same KB number - and WU will pick it up since it checks versioning through the cat/mum/manifest file system to ensure that the latest version is installed.

3) Yeah - I posted it, but it seems to have been deleted (or got lost in the post).

4) Quite possible - this is likely to be because of cretins like Softpedia probably still offering the older patch and causing problems.

I must be the lucky one when it comes to Windows Upadates.
The only ones I hide are Bing anything and drivers I don't want.
I take all the rest and so far that has worked well for me.

I tend also to let all the Windows Update related install on my system, just hiding Bing Desktop and Update to Drivers for my hardwares.

As the others stated, i do install what's checked before and at second turn the unchecked (not optional ones). It as always works fine like that, even that tough kb2862330, but i felt i did wrong not unplug some devices before as it had really frozen the logon screen and couldn't type any password or restart/stop button. Hard reboot once in a while!

Same here. I hide anything to do with ^%$#@! Bing and install the rest. I do wait until Friday evening or Saturday morning before installing to make sure there aren't any reports of problems. I also make an image of my boot drive first, right after running full anti-malware scans.

I just did this month's updates (4) and, so far, no problems.
