Not getting Windows updates

My friend's Windows 7 computer was set to only notify when updates were available, he was then installing after reviewing them. I noticed in his history that he had not gotten the December or January updates, last ones were November. We put it on Automatic and had it check for updates, but it still is not seeing anything except Office 2010 Service Pack 2. We installed that, rebooted, but it still finds nothing. Any ideas what to try next?

Try this...
Windows Update - Reset

... if need be, try this too:
What is the System Update Readiness Tool?
(It might appear to freeze, let it run overnight. It says that it is installing, but it is really doing its hard work.)

...and later - try this:
Windows Updates - Remove Outdated Updates in Windows 7

Hi. I think you have to manually check your settings. I used to have this problem too. The PC stopped auto updating after a period and the updates seemed to stalled or stopped after that. You might have to roll back to the point of the previous update (October) as the November update could have caused the problem. Please do make backups because the rollback can cause damage!

Don't try anything (rollback) before making backups.Thanks.

OK thanks for the ideas. I'll make sure he has current backups before doing anything else. Thanks
