Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit SP1 Update is failing, error 0x800f0900

Ever since it came out, my computer has been unable to install SP1. It has never really been an issue before, but I now have a program that won't install because it requires SP1.

The error message I am getting is 0x800f0900

I have run the System Update Readiness Tool (Windows6.1-KB947821-v31-x86.msu)

I have also run sfc /scannow
It reports that "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them."

I have attached the log files as instructed.

    Please help! Thank you.

CheckSUR shows a number of errors - we'll start with the easy ones...
    Code:
    Unavailable repair files:

     servicing\packages\Package_76_for_KB2685811~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.1.1.11.cat
I'll post a fix protocol for these later.

What's more worrying is the number of errors in the SFC log...

I'll post a second fix protocol for those one as well.

Here's the first fix - for the CheckSUR problems.

    I've uploaded a file - wleaa.zip - to my SkyDrive at Noel's SkyDrive
    Please download and save it.
Right-click on the downloaded file, and select Extract all…
Extract to the default location - which will create a new folder wleaa in the same place.
Open this folder - there should be two folders inside it (Manifests, and Packages)

Copy the content of the Packages folder to the folder
    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages

And the content of the manifests folder (.manifest files) into this folder:

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests

Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

Post the new CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log file.

...and here's the second fix - there's still a couple remaining, but I'd like to see the results so far..

    I've uploaded a file - wleab.zip - to my SkyDrive at Noel's SkyDrive
    Please download and save it.

Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...
Change the target to C:\ and click on Extract
Close all windows (it would be a good idea to print these instructions!)
Now reboot to the Repair Environment - as soon as the machine restarts, start tapping F8 - this should bring up the Advanced Boot Menu, at the top of which should be the option 'Repair my Computer'
    Pick that
You'll have to log in with your username and password.

Pick the option to use a Command Prompt
    At the prompt type
    DIR C:\wleab
hit the enter key - if you get a 'Not Found' error try
    DIR D:\wleab
    or
    DIR E:\wleab

The drive letter in use when you find the folder will need to be substituted (for<drive>) into the following command...

    XCOPY <drive>:\wleab <drive>:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h

    (e.g.XCOPY P:\wfire P:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h )

run the command (it should take almost no time)and when the prompt returns, type
    EXIT
and hit the Enter key to exit Command Prompt - reboot to Normal Mode Windows.

Now run SFC /SCANNOW in an Elevated Command Prompt
then reboot and upload the new CBS.log file to your reply.

Okay. I followed the directions to fix the CheckSUR problems. I've attached the new log files.

As for the second part, when I press enter on "Repair my Computer" I get an error message 0xc000000e that says "The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessable."

When I press Esc or Enter from there, Windows starts in the usual manner.

If we're just looking to copy those files outside of Windows, I can try to boot to a separate Windows XP hard drive in the system and copy them from there...

CheckSUR did what it was supposed to do, at least :)

Your problem with the Repair Environment sounds to be similar to the one in this thread - Windows 7, "Repair your computer" F8 boot option not working (SOLVED) | Acronis Community

I suspect that your dual-boot is interfering with the enumeration of the drives in BCD.
You should really get that fixed for the future :)

For now, yes, you can use an XP boot to do the copy/paste into the correct folders - but I would use the same commands, booting ONLY to the Safe Mode with Command Prompt to do it (adjusting drive letters and other parameters as necessary)

We'll need to adjust permissions on the files after replacement - but we can do that in one fell swoop when we've checked everything is where it belongs (I hope :))

There is still work to do with the CheckSUR results in the registry - but let's get the files right first.

It's not technically a dual boot system. I have a total of 4 drives. An SSD for my Windows 7 C drive, two large seagate drives in a Raid Mirroring configuration for my D drive (all data is on these) and a small drive for E that acts as a temp drive to take some of the wear and tear off of the SSD. The E temp drive has Windows XP on it. So if I reorder the drives in the BIOS, Windows XP boots up.

I'll check out that other thread.

I'll copy the files over under Win XP a bit later today and post the updated log.

    Hmmm.... Not working out here...

    Issue 1:
I tried copying the files in Windows XP's safe mode command prompt, but I get an access denied error.

    Issue 2:
I tried the fix in the Repair Environment thread you directed me to. While my bcdedit /enum all output looks to have the same issues as the ones in that thread, only the first of the three commands they were told to run worked for me.

    What next?

I also tried booting into Windows XP and copying the files there. I get an access denied error there as well. The whole directory is marked read-only and it doesn't let me change it.

Interesting you say that the folder is tagged as read-only - it should possibly have brought up an error about ownership, but not on about being read-only!

Let's see what we can do about that.
In the normal Win7 boot, open Windows Explorer and navigate to the C:\Windows folder in the left pane (or open it in the right pane if you don't use tree view)
find the winsxs folder entry, and right-click on it - select Properties.

Clear the 'blob' from the 'Read-only (Only applies to files in folder)' box by clicking on it until it's plain white.
    Click on Apply.

Make sure that the radio button for 'Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files' is set, and click OK.

Accept the Administrator prompt. After a couple of seconds, you'll be told there is an error - click on the 'Ignore all' button.

Wait for it to finish - it could take a few minutes.

OK out, and exit Windows Explorer.

    Reboot twice
