    The installation is 'interesting' :)

What happens if you attempt validation at www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate using Internet Explorer?
If/when it fails - what error message do you get?
What results do you get from the diagnostics at www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag ?

When I run the verification at the web site you posted, I get the green circle then the message "Windows validation was interrupted, not available, try later. I've done it before and had the green circle sit on my screen for 10 hours and not results appeared.

If I use the Start, windows activation in search it says it is not genuine.

Another process brings up the validation screen , you click Continue, wait for a code that is copied and pasted into the validation box but again no results shows up.

All this is very frustrating, I had previously installed and successfully activated this copy of Windows 7 Home Premium and it ran fine until Microsoft apparently added something to verify that the installed OS was genuine and then I started getting this not genuine message. This is a family pack edition, 3 copies with a single Product Code, which makes me wonder if I will have problems when I install the other two copies.

I'm also having problems with Vista Home Basic. A problem caused me to do a reinstall and although I also have a valid product code for that OS, the only thing showing is an activation required notice. The problem identified in that case that is preventing activation is the Activation Server determined the specified product key is in use which is probably true since it was a reinstallation of the OS and the original activation required the product key.

I considered reinstalling Windows 7 but with the product code problem I have with Vista I think I many again run into this product key in use problem again.

The results of the genuine diag showed all items successful

Your Vista problem is simply solved- use telephone activation.

Back to Windows 7 - did you run the diagnostics that I pointed you at?
Did you attempt validation using internet Explorer?? - rather than your default Chrome?

Please first try recreating Licensing Store.

    Recreate the Licensing Store
Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-Click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator - accept the UAC prompt
Run the following commands in the Command Prompt window, using the Enter key at the end of each

    net stop sppsvc
(wait until the service has stopped before entering the following lines)

    CD %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
    REN tokens.dat tokens.bar
    net start sppsvc
    slui.exe

After a couple of seconds the Windows Activation dialog will appear.
You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key, or Activation may occur automatically.
If you are asked for your Key, use the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case

Reboot and Post back with a new MGADiag report.

(Note: the Line 'CD %win......\SoftwareProtectionPlatform' is all on one line - it may be broken in the Forum listing)

To answer the questions you posed.
I ran diagnostics and all were successful.
I attempted to validate using Internet Explorer with no success.
Now the good news. Your suggestion to recreate Licensing Stores did the job. It appears the problem was in the token.dat file. Your instruction were easy to follow but I did note a few different responses.

Microsoft Validation dialog stated Action Required which basically required because the web browser may not run the required script. The alternate procedure worked fine, validation was completed and I was ask to download and install Windows Security Essentials, which I did and a scan was completed. I rebooted and the not genuine error was gone. I ran Start, Windows Activate, it checked the product key and activation was successful. I did remove KB971058 which also affects activation and validation.

I really appreciate your suggestions on how to fix the error. I do have one other problem, I can't search for new updates with an error code of C80003FA, unknown error. I ran the Windows Update Troubleshooter and found no errors. Also ran CHKDSK with no errors. If you have any suggestion to fix that problem send them along. I did check the updates and there seems to be quite a few of them.

If you still want the MSGDIAG report I can send that.

KB971058 can't be uninstalled - there's nothing to uninstall! it's simply a fixit that you run to reset Windows Updates. In theory, it shouldn't have any effect on validation or activation.

Please post the new MGADiag report - just so we can check that the problem is properly fixed.

As far as your Windows Update problem is concerned,
Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data
