They do not show or re-appear for me because...
...I do have the Bing Bar, Bing Desktop or Silverlight installed
...I did the steps in post #3.

The OP does not want to do the steps in post #3 because:
"I tried that but like I said I want some of those updates..."

As you know, MSE will continue to update itself even if the OP does the steps in post#3. MSE disables Windows Defender, so that should not be an issue.

    @leftkidney,
What are some of those updates that you wanted?

I just guess MS wants me to install it but I dont like it, I ahve no use for silverlight or bing

to be honest I have no use for windows other than playing games lol - that is until steam gets linux gaming working, for the most part I use linux I just need windows for games and I started just using it most of the time because its easier than booting into linux or using the other computer I am lazy

so whatever the case its just another thing to make me dislike windows more that sucks - its like I need a striped down version of windows like the android from google vs the touchwiz crap samsung does - need a windows like that to play games on

Your could help me to help others by telling me if the steps that I listed in post #3 worked or failed for you. If they failed, then I have one more thing to try (Windows Update - Reset). If that fails, then I'll need to do more research on my end before I suggest that path again to another member.

well they steps you posted are correct but they arent helpful for me, that is to say they didnt solve my problem

so technically they failed but thats not your fault its the way MS designed things so I dont know what to say its not like it failed because you were wrong

your steps were great the screen shots and everything, this is why I love these forums you guys dont always solve my problems but the help is always great and never lacking so keep up the great work

    Thanks for the feedback.

So, you did the steps and the Bing crap is still offered?
Or, you cannot do the steps because you want some of those updates?

    Just trying to understand.

yea I didnt do the steps because I want it to still update the other things that it updates, but I know by doing that it will not show the update anymore but I suppect MS will somehow get it installed someway so I like to see everything that goes on with my computer

but just to clarify you provided correct info that would stop it from showing up but it will also stop other things from showing up that I wanted

its like the itunes update crap, it keeps asking me every month or so if I want to update itunes and install quicktime like whenever a new version comes out - MS just does the same thing but everytime you install updates and restart the computer and check for updates again it will find the bing bar and silverlight ever though I just checked the option to hide update in the right click menu

they just like throwing crap at you and see if you can forget and install it, like installing flash how it wants to install some av program its all like this

    thanks for your help

Updates will re-appear when they themselves are updated - this is by design, and fully intentional.
The problem with the Silverlight and Bing Bars is that more than one version is available at WU.
If you check the Bing situation, there are actually two completely different apps - Bing Bar, and Bing Desktop - and these are available in about 3 different versions each. Higher versions are offered first, and when these are hidden, the lower versions are then offered, and you need to also hide these.
When the updates are themselves updated, you have to go through the whole procedure again

With Silverlight, I think that there are currently two versions being offered.
what a effing cluster fck MS has become I cant wait for the day they abandon all legacy and start from scratch

It does seem M$ sure want us all to have bing and Silverlight. Silverlight is only used on a couple of M$ sites that I've seen, so I figured I don't need to see the content, it's similar to Java, which I also don't have/need/want.

I don't get the offer from WU each time now, but sometimes it is, so once again, for the 59th time, I hide the update.

Noel is correct, there are updates to Bing Desktop(1), Bing Bar(3), and Silverlight(5) that are offered.

Updates will continue to be offered, so the only thing you can do is hide the updates when WU offers them. If you accidentally install one, no big deal - uninstall it. manually check for updates and hide the offer.

This is the way WU works. I wish there were a way to say "Hey, I never want Silverlight or Bing to be offered", but there's good reason not to allow us to stop offers. We always have the option to decline the offer and or uninstall what was installed.
