update trying to install silverlight and bing bar

simply put I hate silverlight and have no use for it or the bing bar but every time I get updates its always there telling me to install it I right click and "hide update" but it comes back every time I go back there a few times I ended up almost installing it and this is a problem how can I just remove them from the updates all together I have show optional updates because sometimes there are ones I want like updates for the defender or whatever its called now so I dont want to just turn those off but this is becoming a problem again I dont have these programs installed but they always show up as optional updates even though I right click and press hide update

I tried that but like I said I want some of those updates I just want it to stop asking me about silverlight and bing bar ----------------------------------------------- another problem is this forums doesent seem to be posting what I type properly, its removing the spaces between lines and making it all one large paragraph - should be a double space between here - this should be 2 spaces down from above but for some reason its not

What antivirus software are you using?

What browser are you using to post to this forum with?

There is a place for that info in your system specs.

I am using the AV that comes with windows 7 defender or whatever its called -

I am using firefox and everything up to date -

this was posted using chrome again everything up to date but it shows up properly in chrome just not firefox - (this was edited in firefox and there is no space between these 2 lines -should be next line here-* *double space above here starting with this *

this works but only if I add the correct html code between lines which cant be typed here or it wont show up, it is < > with "br /" between lines it works but firefox isnt putting this by default chrome is but just adding that code makes it work properly in firefox - its something with the forums

Windows Defender comes as a part of W7...
...but it is not an antivirus tool in W7.
(It is an antivirus tool in Windows 8.)

Windows Defender (and Microsoft Security Essentials) will both update just fine without putting a check by the options that I suggested to uncheck.

    If I may.
Windows Defender in Windows 7 is not enough protection.
Update to Micorsoft Security Essentials. It is FREE from Microsoft.
It will turn off Defender when installed.

Microsoft Security Essentials - Microsoft Windows

This is how I keep my Windows Update settings. It will allow you to choose which updates you want and hide the ones you don't want.
I also check for updates 2 or 3 times a day which will keep Microsoft Security Essentials up to date.

yea I do have MSE and defender nothing else

oh yea I always have it set to download but let me install that way my computer just doesent reboot by it self

but the problem is that windows update keeps restoring the hidden updates, I got to say there are some problems I have with Win7 that I never had with Vista nore XP, however Vista was crappy so thats OK

I do have the same problems with win 8.1 on my other computer but those problems are for another topic

Updates will re-appear when they themselves are updated - this is by design, and fully intentional.
The problem with the Silverlight and Bing Bars is that more than one version is available at WU.
If you check the Bing situation, there are actually two completely different apps - Bing Bar, and Bing Desktop - and these are available in about 3 different versions each. Higher versions are offered first, and when these are hidden, the lower versions are then offered, and you need to also hide these.
When the updates are themselves updated, you have to go through the whole procedure again

With Silverlight, I think that there are currently two versions being offered.
